Finally made it to the range today with my LCP. I had only one complaint..............I didn't bring enough ammo :D.

I fired 107 rounds total, which was all that I had in my range bag. I walked out of the house and forgot a whole 100 round brick of WWB FMJ. Didn't realize until I got to the range that I'd left it behind. So I made do with what I had.

Breakdown of ammo fired:
70 rnds WWB
18 rnds Fiochhi JHP
6 rounds Speer GDHP
6 rounds Fed. Hydrashock
7 rounds PMC Eldorado Starfire

total failures...........0

Testing protocol:

Used 8" paper plates with shoot n c dots as aiming points. All shots fired two hand standing except where noted.

First test 5 yds. 19 rounds fired WWB. Firing as fast as sights resettled on target. 19 rounds accounted for on target:

2nd test 7 yds, 24 rounds fired WWB. 23 rounds accounted for. Again firing as fast as sights could resettle on target.

3rd test 10 yds. SLOW FIRE. 12 rounds fired WWB, 12 rounds accounted for, called flier low left, slapped the trigger on that shot.

4th test 15 yds. (Yes I know we're getting into the realm of the ridiculous with a pocket pistol, but hey I wanna know what it'll do out here) 6 rounds fired WWB, 6 rounds accounted for on target.

5th test 25yds. (really into the realm of ridiculousness now, but still I wanna know). At this range I leaned against the vertical post holding up the shelter. 6 rounds fired, 4 accounted for on target. other two rounds found in wood to left of target 1.5 in and 2 in away from target edge respectively.

6th test 7 yds, JHP function test. I really tried my best here to get the LCP to fail. I staggered JHP and FMJ. I staggered different types of JHP's. I fired it sideways gangsta style. I fired it using only my trigger finger and thumb (in other words using no grip at all!). I turned it upside down and fired it. I could not get it to jam. 38 rounds of mixed ammo fired, 34 accounted for on target.

Overall, I have to say I am pleased. I did my best to get this gun to fail, it did not. It was very easy to shoot, recoil was brisk but manageable. After 107 rounds I was ready for 107 more, but was out of ammo.

It disappears in my pocket in a cheap double triple pocket holster (gonna look for a desantis superfly soon.)

great report, nice photos

very nice report. I just got my lcp yesterday and my son andI fired 300 rounds out of it saturdaty without one flaw, nadda, nothing, zero. What a super little handgun. We just came back in from another session witht he lcp, and again 200 flawless rounds through it, making 500 good rounds through the lcp, 20 dpx defense rounds also. No issues what so ever, no wear inside anywhere. lubed tyhe rails with grease and we just shot it like we stole it.

If I had one recommendation for Ruger, that manual safelty lever is just one little bugger to engage. It is IMO to flat and the ridge built up around the lever makes it even harder for us anyhow to actually push it up. Has anyone else had this experience.

This lcp is one super little handgun, so so much better than the ones I used to own..

Jocko,

My dad and I shot mine friday with no problem. However, my dad complained about the slide lock, but I have no problem with it.

Nice report! Thanks, now I have to go spend more money.

Good luck finding one. They are a hot item around here and sell faster than they come in.

The dealer I ordered mine from has heard that with the SR9 recall it may be several months before all backorders on LCP's are filled. At least Ruger is standing behind SR9 owners on that one. I was sorely tempted to buy one and am now glad I didn't though I'll probably pick one up someday. (Would rather have an SR45 though :D).

One thing I failed to mention in my report is that this gun tends to shoot high at longer ranges. I expect that's a function of the recoil in such a lightweight gun. It did not bother me at all at 5/7/10 yds, though you can see in the photos that the group centers were steadily creeping upward. Those targets were shot with sights centered on the target dot.

When I got to the 15 yd target the first two shots (near the top of the paper plate) were shot using a centered on the dot hold. I adjusted to a 6 o'clock hold on the bottom of the paper plate for the other 4 rounds. You can see how they are clustered lower.

When I got to the 25 yd target I was holding at the bottom of the plate and the shots were high and slightly left. But, as I said in the report, who is really gonna be target shooting at 25 yds with this gun??

Good to know though that I could make a COM hit at that range if I had to.

I fired 40 rounds through mine a few days ago and my hand is still sore. The gun shot great though.

Where is it biting you on the hand??

I have big meaty paws and this gun doesn't bother me at all. I found it very controllable using a standard "thumbs forward" autopistol grip.

The NAA's I've owned and the Seecamps I've shot all to one extent or another bit my trigger finger with the triggerguard. This one does not (and boy am I ever happy, that's one type of pain that ends a range session quick for me).

Did your frame show any wear after your initial outing? Mine did, especially around the barrel locking area, just forward of the retaining pin.

Mine is showing some peening on the rear right hand side of the frame insert just forward of the hammer. My understanding is that newer models of the gun will have a milled area there to eliminate this problem, but the problem is cosmetic only and self limiting. Eventually it will wear until it wears that spot down. Ruger is milling this area on later versions of the gun to prevent this, but it isn't really a problem.

Other than that, no wear at all evident.

mine shows zero signs of any wear anywhere, I greased the rails, and just shot it like I stole it. Goes bang every time, My son is very accurate with it, better than I am. corbon dpx fires great out of it also. Other thant he manual slide lock a bugger to engage, I love this gun. I think the slide lock willget better with use, but I could live without it anyhow...

Nice gun..

nice report and with 5 different brands of ammo to. That speaks highly of this little gun, seems to like most any brand. for range use I am using Federal AE and CCI blazer, they work great. I usually buy the lowest priced ammo Ican find for range use. Just ordered some PMC for $10.49 a box, as low as I could find. If it goes bang, I will buy it. Corbon dpx for defense purposes..

Interesting. I like mine a lot, but if I don't hold it firmly it stovepipes. You'd think they'd all be the same. Different recoil pring strength, maybe??

Here's the wear that I'm experiencing

Here's the wear that I'm talking about, after 50-rounds of CCI Blazer and 17-rounds of Federal 90gr HydraShoks, and I have the modified frame with the cutout.

Mine has the peening like Rantingredneck but I do not have anything like that GBiker92.

The peening has stopped on mine and has not been an issue in function.

u did the frame mod right, touch it up with some black paint and it will look just like part of the frame. Nice job. I would never send one back for just that, just not worth the downtime. This is a no brainer to do yourself. I know most and I do to, feel that they should not have to file or hack their guns either. But in this case I would file it down and move on or just leave it alone and in time it will take care of itself to.

I contacted Ruger just to follow-up with my previous post and picture and they said that the wear in the area depicted in the picture is "normal" wear and to not be concerned, that it would stabilize and not get worse. They also said that should the insert fail, they will replace it with a new pistol. That is a comforting reply, although I didn't spend that much money for the pistol, I would hait for it to chew itself up.

I found a dealer near me with 10 LCPs in hand for $300 each. Somebody please talk me out of buying one... I'm not going to carry often anyways [yet] due to my wonderful "restricted" permit.

You'll not get me to talk you out of buying one. Look at the pictures above. For a 2.75" barreled gun with no sights to speak of that weighs next to nothing it's a darn fine shooter. Definitely my always gun from now on.

Gah. So, I went to buy one today, and found out that the dealer had lied to me about the quantity they had on hand. I got there and when I asked for it they told me "they sold it". I said, "You sold all 10 of them?" They said, "Uhh... yeah... we sold it."
Last time I ever consider buying anything at B&J guns in Colonie, NY... this is at least the 4th blatant lie I've heard from them, and I don't go there often anyway because of their arrogant attitude.
Oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait for another dealer to get them in and pay less for it :)
And, for the record, I hate you all.. you failed to convince me not to buy it, and now I've got this insatiable craving...

Found one! Now I just need to wait for the judge to sign my amendment, then I get to pick up my new LCP. $265 cash, and I found a great gun shop to deal with in the process.
