Yet another Mall shooting

1 fatally shot, 1 wounded in mall in Wash.
The Southcenter Mall in Tukwila was locked down Saturday night as police went store to store in an effort to find a young man who shot two other young men, one of them fatally, inside the mall.

Police spokesman Mike Murphy, an officer, told The Associated Press there were "thousands" of shoppers at the mall when the shooting took place just before 3:45 p.m.

The shooting victims were taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, where one of them died. Murphy said he did not know the condition of the other victim.

Murphy said the gunman used a pistol and fired multiple shots. He said at least two people were detained for questioning, but neither was the shooter.

As police searched for the shooter, they allowed store employees and customers remaining in the mall to exit the mall in groups, Murphy said.

He told The AP that there was a possibility the assailant "may have escaped" with the crowd.

The assailant and the two victims were all in their late teens or early 20s. Murphy said no other people were injured.

SWAT teams from all over Puget Sound converged on the mall to help search for the suspect, who is believed to have gotten into an altercation with the two victims. But it was unknown what led to the shooting or the relationship between the shooter and the victims or even between the victims themselves.

Chauncey Williams, a soldier from Fort Lewis, said he witnessed the shooting. He said he was coming out a store when he saw two men arguing and then saw one pull out a gun and start firing.

"I've got the heebie jeebies," Williams told The Seattle Times. "It's like I'm back in Iraq or something."

A customer, 51-year-old Mark Nickels of Seattle, described the chaos that erupted after the shooting.

"Everybody just stopped," Nickels said. "Everybody thought something fell. Then a second or two later, there was a second shot and then everybody scattered. People were running to the (exits) or running to the stores to hide."

Christine Pierce, 18, of Seattle, said she is a regular shopper at Southcenter and showed up Saturday to visit her sister, who works at the mall.

"They need tighter security," Pierce told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

In March, a 21-year-old man was wounded in gunfire between several people outside the mall. In September 2005, two men were shot and killed inside a car parked at the mall during what appeared to be a drug deal.

It's getting a lot of publicity where I live. Imagine if a random CCW holder stopped it, what the news coverage would be like. "Rambo gun holder kills mall shooter instead of calling police!"

I don't consider this a "Mall Shooting". Those have to involve some lunatic who has decided to shoot multiple people with some randomness. This sounds like a gang related shooting that occurred at the mall.

Same goes for "School Shooting". Random shooting with no specific single target? That's a School Shooting. If it's a punk with a beef with a specific kid or teacher it's just a shooting that took place at a school.

Not that the media would parse the conditions of the shooting.

This is "gang bangers" and "target specific" rather than some nut job sweeping the crowd with full-auto fire.

But you can bet the gun grabbers will get on it, despite the fact that the perp is probably not 21 yrs old and in unlawful possession of a handgun in the first place.

Never mind that the laws against shooting people in the mall didn't slow down the mall shooting.

The last update from KING5 - was 1 dead and 3 serious condition.

That Mall, in my view, has been a problem for years. The "Food Court" was more like "Loiter Central", with a loitering to eating ratio of about 25 to 1 on busy days/weekends. So much so that I avoided entering/exiting from that location for several years.

Not to sound insensitive but the description from King5 News is laughable: "He may have been wearing some sort of black track suit with red piping". Um, the Nike/Air Jordan gear is standard uniform for a lot of the guys (and it is mostly guys) I used to see loitering.

Stay Safe.

My house in Seattle is about 5 minutes North of Southcenter Mall. I do much of my shopping and banking *around* the mall but have not been inside the mall itself in several years. It has long been the worst ghetto rat infested "public place" in the Puget Sound area. I used to go to the food court to eat dinner and watch the rats working in teams snatching purses, wallets, and shopping bags in the sea of clueless sheeple. The rats would have lookouts posted inside and out and a car waiting to pull up outside the food court door for a quick getaway into endless traffic. Then I realized this was probably the single most dangerous place I visited and haven't been back.

I guess the shooter didn't notice the NO GUNS signs posted around all the entrances. :what:

Just because a ccw has a firearm doesnt mean it will help the situation. I am concerned of being a victim of the police responders.

It was a bunch of stupid gangbangers

doing what those people do best. Why can't they go back into the hood and kill each other in the street without involving innocent white shoppers. What really sucks is their aim is so bad that the little gnagsters don't end up killing each other (which would do us all a favor) but instead gets innocents hurt. When is the news going to start telling it like it is, instead of playing politics with people's lives. Ban gang(sterszzzz), not guns. I would like to see a lot more of "Boyz on da hood"

Shooter429, I agree with the first half of your sentence, but perhaps we could expand the "innocent white shoppers" to include all innocent shoppers. Just like we're all infuriated when the MSM uses some madman to cast a stigma on law-abiding gun owners, maybe we don't need to perpetuate the stereotype of racist gun owners in our own forums (not that I doubt your good intentions).

In truth, the anti-gun crowd is generally racist (for proof of this, just read up on why the NAACP is anti-gun). Having said that, I see "gangbanger culture" as the biggest threat to gun ownership in this country. Each time a thug, who should never have had a gun in the first place, shoots another thug (especially if he uses a so-called "assualt rifle") we get folks screaming for more restrictive gun laws and casting anyone who speaks up for unadulterated 2nd amendment rights as a hillbilly and a redneck (more evidence that anti-gunners have racist/elitist beliefs). And as the most liberal regime in our history prepares to take office, it seems they're sitting back like Hank Jr. saying, "Don't Give Us a Reason." All we need is a few more mall, school, or other such gun-free zone shootings...if I didn't strongly believe in the die-hard, "come and take them" American gunowner, I'd be genuinely depressed.

I have to agree with Vanderbilt. I see gang bangers of all colors and national origin.
I also have refused to go to malls for years due to infestations of hoodlums. I used to haunt the malls back in the early 80s with my buddies, but I wouldn't let my son go to the same malls now without me as armed escort. And since 90% of them are "posted", guess we ain't goin'!

I guess the shooter didn't notice the NO GUNS signs posted around all the entrances.
I have never noticed any of the signs at Southcenter, but I have only gone there a handful of times about a year ago. I had a girlfriend who worked there.

Is that mall considered a 'GFZ'?

Malls are rabidly anti gun because malls cater to women and most women are either neutral or anti gun (thus the reason the pro gun women get tons of attention). I didn't just say anything you didn't already know, but few people dare to talk about it because of how our society avoids the differences between men and women.

Alright, I'll rephrase

Since not all gangsters are black and not ALL innocents are white, lets say send all the little gangbangers of whatever ethnic persuasion back to the holes from which they emerged. In this incident, they were all black in a predominatly white populated place, so that is why I phrased it like that. Of course, there are evil little gangters of hispanic, asian and even some european ancestry. But the bulk of criminals in the area are black. If you look at prison populations you will see that the blacks make up a disproportionate amount of the inmate population. Their culture is one that says that they have a right to do and get whatever they want because they been opressed by da man (even though none of them have ever been discriminated against). They see knowledge, education, hard work and honesty as weakness. Thuggin rapin, robbin dealin dope and hurting innocents as the way to be. They love money, power and hate all people not like them. In essence they disdain all that is good and worship all that is bad. Compared to the average white working person, their values are inverted. That is the problem, not guns. The bad guys black hispanic or other will always have guns no matter how many laws are passed that regulate the law-abiding citizens posession or use, because they don't follow the laws or social mores of the greater culture in the first place.

What I find so ironic is they are da man and yet they continue to speak think and act as though they had a legitimate reason to act the way they do.

Shooter429

I also find it ironic

That the same leftist elites that created this gang culture are the ones who are now trying to ban guns. Funny isn't it.

They wanted to take fathers out of the home. They succeeded. Now all the single mothers have house full of boys who don't have any dicipline, love or positive male role models.

They want women to work. So now you have a bunch of kids left to there own divices all day.

They want to teach blacks that it is not their fault they don't acheive, it is the racist governemnt that made it impossible for them to get what they need through legitimate means.

They take God out of school and culture so that kids are not taught "though shall not kill, though shalt not steal, though shalt not commit adultery...treat yourselves and others with respect.

They want drug use to be seen as legitimate-guess what now you got generations smokin crack and shooting crank fueling property crimes and violence.

And on and on it goes.

Am I the only one who sees the big picture here?

Now it is the God-fearing hard-working taxpaying white people who bear the burdon of the repercussions of the counterculture experiement and are being told we have to give up our rights to fix the social woes that they created in the first place. It is just not right.

The fix is easy

Hold them accountable for all their wrongdoing instead of making excuses for them.

Start teaching love of God, country and fellow citizens

Bring back traditional family values-one dad, one mom in each household- and forget about allowing "alternate family structures and gay marriage.

Teach the kids to read write and speak English, not ebonics

Raise academic standards and expect all children, blasck, white or othersise to meet them

Teach the value of earning an honest dollar, and contributing to the community

Teach them to respect authority, the law, their elders and such.

Teach them to say no to sex, drugs and violence and replace these vices with wholesome activities.

And so on and so on. Bring our country back from the destructive path that these leftists have steered her into.

And insist that our second amendment rights not be infringed as a quick fix to the woes that these morons have beset upon her in the first place

Your point is taken.

The roots of the problem are social.

The solutions will be social and political.

Let us not drift into identifying the problem with races, though.

While the root of the problem may lie in the racism of the "social engineers," the solution will not be found in racism or placing any emphasis on race.

Any thug/gang culture will prey on easy victims.

Easy victims are made by disarming the law abiding folks.

Let's address that, since the problem that currently confronts us is one of being disarmed when being well armed and well trained would be more appropriate.

Southcenter is in the city of Tukwila which lies just South of Seattle where we have the wacko anti-gun Mayor Nickels to deal with. :barf:

I believe all malls and shopping centers owned/run by Westfield are posted "No Guns" and/or "No Weapons". Fortunately in the State of Washington the worst you can get for carrying on private property that's posted "No Guns" is an escort to the edge of said property by the police. There are two places that I don't carry: the Post Office and the Copshop. Anywhere else is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

This was a gang shooter at a mall...

Have we become so dependent on TRUELY INSANE people in our society committing acts like this that we cannot "close the case" if they do not shoot themselves after unloading some rounds? Or allow themselves to be shot doing it?

As police searched for the shooter, they allowed store employees and customers remaining in the mall to exit the mall in groups, Murphy said.

Nice to know that the police have it all figured out. They let the shooter right our of their grasp... He just ran into another store, took cover "panicking" changed his shirt and went home for a Miller Light.
