Just returned from the range and I must admit, the Taurus PT1911 has exceeded my expectations.

Shoots a bit low at 10 yards, that was the only criticism. With about 400 rounds fired, no failures of any kind with 3 different flavors of JHP.

Very satisfied, particularly considering the disaster with the last 1911.

There is a question. Upon returning home, disassembled the pistol and started cleaning. The barrel required a bunch of work. Probably went thru 30 patches or so and used the brass brush numerous times until the patches came out clean. Never had to work this hard on any other barrel.

Is the 'dirty barrel syndrome' common to the PT1911 ?

If it is shooting a bit low, you were more than likely flinching right before the shot. What kind of ammo were you shooting? Sounds like you just shot filthy ammo, no big deal. I wouldn't spend 20 minutes cleaning the barrel. Use the dedicated bore cleaner of your choice, wet the barrel and set it aside. Clean the rest of the gun with a CLP of your choice. Go back to the barrel when you are done, run a couple of dry patches through it to get the gunk and cleaner out and then oil your bore.

Excessive cleaning just wears out the firearm faster, so sayeth Bushmaster and Pat Rogers anyway.

Fixed sights? If so the front sight may be a little extra high, I've seen that on a lot of pistols. Which means find the load you want it zeroed with, and file the front sight to bring it dead on at your chosen range.

Possible the bore is a touch rough, if so a bit of polishing might help.
