Upfront I owned a Taurus Pt1911 for a brief time but a guy traded me an FAL, a bunch of mags, and few hundred rounds of ammo right when I became a FAL fiend (I own three).

So I bought a STI Spartan .45 ACP 1911. I don't know the exact model. I think it is the "V." I got for $415 dollars out the door in 95% condition with most of the wear on the grip safety and manual safety (looks like typical holster wear). I made a big mess over the slide not catching back on an empty magazine but I didn't realize at the time that there was a Wilson Combat Magazine in the gun (was too hyped up pulling schtick [yes I'm Jewish and salesman and defense counsel hate me]) and Wilson Combat mags are supposed to cause a failure in the slide catch.

I paid cash up front (I only had $415 on me so it was take it or leave it) to get it and one of the guys working there told me he had one just liked it and loved it. The barrel was mint, and even after I lubed it up the slide was still really heavy which tells me that the gun is still fairly new, it loosened up some after I put a hundred rounds through it.

Well as I sat at my house cleaning this new prize I realized something profound at the age of only 27. I don't want any service sized semi-automatics that are not 1911s. All my service sized semis just became the red-headed step-children of my collection (A Ruger P345, Ruger P90, PT99, PT92, Glock 20). I don't want anymore service sized semis that aren't 1911s. I've tried rolling the fickleness in my mind over and over again and I just can't get excited about Sig 220s, Sig 226s, Beretta 92F(S), any of the sup'ed up FNs, or even dare I say it, Browning High Powers.

If it's not for concealed carry(for me pocket carry), or it's not a revolver in .357 magnum (.44 magnum or .454 Cassull) with a 6"+ barrel, then it has to be a 1911.

For so long I wanted a 1911 to call my own and now I'm bit by the bug. My fiancee wants a Kimber Grand Raptor Series II for her wedding present (I love her so much, oh and she wants my Spartan now too) and now I'm not so upset about spending so much on a gun. I keep thinking next, after I get my fiancee her gun, I'll get a Springfield Range Officer so I can convert it to .460 Rowland (because I can't be satisfied with just 10mm or .40 Super anymore).

For awhile I considered getting an XDM in 9mm or .40(so I could also shoot Sig .357) but couldn't bring myself to do it. And after getting my Spartan I'm glad I didn't. Because now I just want to shoot the tar out of my Spartan till I can hold a 4" grouping at twenty-five yards and snap off eight round rapid fire strings at seven yards and hold an 8" grouping.

Now I fear that if I get an officer sized 1911 I'll forsake my Sig 228, Ruger Sp101 3 1/16", Bersa Ultracompact 9mm, Glock 23, Rossi 462. But the Rock Island Sub-Compact just looks so attractive.

Well, since your other firearms must now be worthless I'll be glad to dispose of them for you. I'll PM you my FFL's info.

I can't say I understand your desire after being a part of the 1911 club for a few years now. It's a bug that never sank in to me.

I understand your position as I have been smitten with the 1911 bug all of my life. I don't carry one often as pocket carry suits my lifestyle much better, but I still love the 1911 most. As for your others, I would miss the Ruger and the Bersa, but I would never give the others a second thought as I have never cared for the Sigs or the Glocks and I really don't know anything of the Rossi. So, I would say to you..."Don't sweat it and carry what you like best"...JMO.

Nothing like A 1911 carry one every day own 3 i dont want to own anything else!!!!!! Btw sti is a good pistol grats!!!

How much for the P90? A highly underrated .45 IMO. I like the DA/SA & a KP90 sits bedside. A KP90 DC is one of my grail guns.

My lone 1911 is an RIA Tactical that I like very much. A Ruger SR1911 is on my "must have" list, but the higher end models just don't stir my gravy. Wouldn't turn down a 60's vintage Gold Cup National match tho.

As much as I love all of my M1911 pattern handguns, I also enjoy other pistol designs as well and have readily incorporated them into my collection over the years.

I guess I still believe that variety is the spice of life, especially in regards to handguns.

I'm kind of the same way. I shot a few 1911's, then I HAD to have one. I practically obsessed over it for 6 months. Now there are very few handguns I desire to own, besides more 1911's.

I bought a Spartan, too. Mine's commander length and 9mm. Damn good guns.

I can fully understand your thoughts on the 1911! I am there myself. I will say I am a big fan of the Browning (FN) Hi-Power and if you want to talk revolvers well I'm all over the board on that one!:D

variety is the spice of life my friend.

You will soon find another gun you will want and feel the same way about.

It is only human to never be satisfied, at least not for long.

I could not have said it better. Only ones I sell are the ones with problems, two in the past 26 years. Having watched others buy and sell only to end up where they started minus a small fortune always gave me pause, both in buying and selling.

Not for all. I have no sentimental attachment to a certain gun. The 1911 just fits my hand perfectly. And who can forget that trigger?

There is no "best" gun. As long as what you shoot is reliable, and durable (yeah, yeah, some 1911's aren't, yada yada), whatever fits your hand and you shoot best is the best gun for you. Some people like CZ's, and I personally shoot them like crap. They're reliable and dependable, though.

I don't know what it is about 1911s. I've been looking into my first and decided I wanted it to be a Ruger SR1911. Now that I have one in Jail at my FFL until Monday, I stopped into a LGS Tto get some rounds and while there looked at more 1911s. I'm sure I'll have more before too long.

Who wouldnt want a high a maintenance gun that is less durable and reliable than modern guns?

Obviously you've never owned a 1911 or you wouldn't make such a silly statement.

Wilson Combat magazines

Well, I have to call BS on the remark about Wilson Combat magazines.

If they are not the best, they are better than the rest!

Sad truth but I shoot much better with my Hi-Powers than I do with my Springfield 1911A1. I love both designs and would never sell my .45 but I just don't handle it as well as the 9mm HP.
Even sadder is that I shoot a Model 10 4in bbl better than all of the above. It cost me half the price of the .45 and 1/3 the price of the Browning but it shoots real fine and I shoot better with it too.
Don't give up on your other guns. Sell in haste, regret it at you leisure was already iterated.

I have the same problem. I go look at new handguns....and end up bringing a different 1911 home. I handle SIGS, HKs, M&Ps, FNs, XDMs, ...and I end up with a Wilson CQB Elite. I look at carry guns and handle...all of the above...and end up with an EMP and a SIG 1911 RCS, I can't help myself....they look better, feel better in my hand, trigger works better.....hubba, hubba, hubba...hubba...I'm a Happy Boy.....

One of these days I'll break down and get a high capacity 9mm....(I keep saying that)...and then I look at another 1911...and .....
