I am new to this forum and to Shotguns. I have a brand new 870 Express magnum and from reading almost every thread on this forum for a month still have a question regarding slings. Out of all the different types mentioned I have yet to find here or anywhere on the internet a description of each and there use. Of course the standard carry slings are pretty much obvious in there purpose so my question leans towards the tactical slings. One point, Two point, Three point, mount points, how to use each configuration. Can anyone point me to such a site if indeed it exists? Most of what I find is just manufacturers descriptions which or more full of marketing then practical information.

In my informed confusion I purchased a L.H. slot end plate from midwest industries (mounts between stock and action) and a swivel base clamp from CM & T. Then a "Master blaster" 2 point tactical sling from Spec-ops for it's supposed "ability" to make quick transitions in length. Well I find the whole set-up really problematic the sling came apparently miss-threaded nothing adjusts unless full length is the way it is supposed to dangle... also it would appear that the back slot plate is more for a single point or three point sling as the balance is really loopy.
Any help in their use would be appreciated as I am seriously considering sending the whole collection back and tying a rope to the gun.:banghead:

Thinkat,
Thanks this gives me the confidence that I did indeed make the correct choice however awkward it seems at first, it is just a matter of practice, practice and practice and being thoughtful in my own application.
Can anyone recommend a site describing the different carries? "African" for instance?
