Ok, I know there's probably a ton of these threads, but I want one for myself :D

Giving up on my SW1911 and starting again. Too many times back to the factory. :banghead:

In the 700-900 price range, what do 'yall think is a reasonable buy? I'm leaning toward a Colt XSE, but SA and Kimber seem to have equivalent features. The reason I bought the SW1911 was because it came with everything I wanted: undercut trigger guard, front and rear grip checkering, low mount 3-dot sights, skeletonized hammer, extended beaver tail, aluminum trigger, dehorned, etc. Actually a good value if I trusted it- water under the bridge now...

IYHO's... Lemme have it!

I just picked up my XSE a couple weeks ago & I'm TOTALLY happy with it!!! It's got every feature I wanted in a 1911 and then some.
Get the one you like best...DON'T SETTLE! ;)

Just a suggestion-I'd consider a NRM Colt which can be had around these parts for $625 give or take, and take the balance of the $900 and remove the plastic/MIM parts and replace them with steel. Have enough left over for ammo/reloading components.

From everything I have heard, you cant beat the STI Trojan for a great out of the box, sub $1000 1911 experience.

I shot one and I liked it.

I was hoping to be the first to recommend the Colt NRM Government, but I see I'm already too late.

Go for the New Rollmark Colt, and spend the extra money on all the goodies.

Oooh I'm getting the tingles jus' thinking about it! :D

I heard Colts 1911's have improved greatly. After having seen my share of lemons from Colt I am a bit reluctant to take them seriously yet. I have had good luck with my Kimber but the newer series 2 guns have had some complaints. I am in a waiting list to get the new sig GSR. I played with one at the shot show and it was nice.

Colt is putting out a great product. If you check the 1911 board you will see some complaints about Colt. But........MOST are of a cosmetic nature. Yes Colts are a little looser but they are built to ordnance spec. They are reliable. I have over 800 rounds thru mine, most being JHP. Not one problem.

My Colt was great. But a Trojan will run $920 from Dawson Precision if you can swing the cash.

Springfield "loaded" would be the best buy that has the features you want.
I'd guess around $6-650 so you'll have money left over to keep or improve the trigger/accuracy.

You are almost at the Springfield TRP level and/or STI Trojan if you spend $900.

Colt's very good but you will need to add a "real" beavertail to the XSE to make it like the S&W, which means refinishing. Might as well undercut the trigger guard and bevel the magazine well properly before you finish it.
Then add some better sights, like the 1911's that cost $600 ;) , and you'll be over a thousand dollars in a heartbeat.

Let's see

Colt?
SA?
Kimber?

How about one of each? :D

Just curious, what went wrong with your SW? I was torn between it and the Kimber I ended up buying (and love, btw).

Colt's very good but you will need to add a "real"
END QUOTE

Thats the problem I have had with Colts in the past. They were a good gun once you fixed this added that changed this and dumped a bunch more money into the gun. Sorry I like my guns to be right from the start. I heard Colt has improved lately. Thats good they had very little room to go anywhere bit up in quality. They had pretty much reached rock bottom.

Colt also over charges and screws its fans. $1100 for a $500 Anaconda. Come on. They are just raping people that are Colt Fans. I have little respect for a company that does that. I do like their LEO and Military AR15's they still do those right. But again they screw the normal folks by putting plastic buffers in them and not chrome lining the barrels. My LEO M4 is a far better gun than the Post Ban Colt my friend bought. I could not believe all the corners they cut.

I rather enjoy my 1st 1911.

MaterDei- In brief, two guns, six trips back between the both of them. :cuss: Sadly, I think they're not quite right yet (not in spec), so I'm cutting my losses. And I'm a Smith fan and remain so, just not a S&W 1911 fan.

45auto- That's what I mean, all those features! I want 'em. Just beter for me to have them out of the box... but I do enjoy a challenge :D

Eveyone, thanks, this goes on... I know it's out there

355sigfan... don't get me started on AR's... THAT research has been going on for a few months and ... never mind... :banghead:

I bought a new Colt NRM Combat Commander last January and am very pleased with it. It is reliable and exhibits accuracy that is even better than that of my SIG P225, which is saying something. It also has a beautiful fit and finish. The slide to frame fit and barrel lockup are excellent. Colt will be my first choice when I buy a full size Government model in the under $1000 price range later this year. If I were to spend over $1000, I would consider an STI Trojan. If you are considering a Colt, I highly suggest that you look at their NEW offerings. There is a lot of good information about Colts on the 1911 forum.

at the shot show, the colt guns had the sloppiest lockup and whathave you of all of the guns at the show. Including the auto ordinance ones.

i'd get a SA milspec and call it good, myself.

I've had Springfield armory, Olympic arms, and Colts in 1911
.45 cal. They are all good guns but my next gun will be a
Wilson Combat PDP. I believe in the saying. " you get what you
pay for".
