My son and I will be hosting a Yavapai Firearms Academy (Louis Awerbuck) Stage I Shotgun on June 27, 28 and 29 in Dewey, Arizona (about 25 minutes East of Prescott).

This course is designed to create reflexive gunhandling, good marksmanship and tactical thinking. In addition it places strong emphasis on learning what the shotgun will, and most particularly WILL NOT, do. The importance of patterning the shotgun properly is discussed at length. The course also covers ammunition selection, loading and unloading, reloading and ammunition selection while involved in a shooting scenario, shooting from several ready positions and various tactical body positions, dim-light and flashlight shooting, shooting on the move, moving targets, multiple targets and weapon retention.

Ammunition requirements are 400 Birdshot, 60 Buckshot, 60 Slugs, and 100 rounds of handgun ammo for transition drills. A sling and flashlight (preferably of the "tactical" variety i.e. SureFire) is also required.

Cost is $450 for the three-day course, with a $125 deposit required by May 5th. Class size will be limited to the first 18 applicants.

I can be contacted by email ([email protected]) or by phone at (928) 775-5860 for questions.

For the curious, I’m not taking any cut from the class. Having been through several of Louis’ classes before, I just thought we’d offer this valuable training to others.

El Tejon-

Same range, still making improvements. Hope to have a mover up and running (no pun intended) within a month or so. We're converting one of the houses on the property into a kill house and will run mostly force-on-force training in it with Airsoft guns--lots of blind corners, 3-way intersections, basement, attic--a real nightmare to clear!

Flint and I don't have any CCW or tactic classes scheduled and Louis is off the road during that period, so it seemed liked a perfect opportunity to let others benefit from his knowledge. We might be able to have an Arizona CCW class at night in conjuntion with the shotgun course for those interested.

Denny, that's great. Even though it pains me to see you are foregoing a cut, you should be commended for reaching out to the shooting community and expanding the base of knowledge. Thanks much.

BTW, have you talked to the accountant about writing off the "loss leader" class? No cut? Denny, you have no idea how that pains me.:D

Louis' a friend in the true sense of the word. Taking money from him would be like taking money from family. (though I do have some family I'd charge) ;)

In my book, Louis sets the standard by which all other instructors are judged. He's simply the best.

I took the course a few years back and I must say it was the BEST training I have recieved , including the 'old ' Gunsite.PS I also took John Satterwaite(sp?) shotgun course in late 80's and this course was FAR superior (although not as much razzle dazzle from the Sifu).

Louis Awerbuck is IMHO mandatory for any student who wants a classic education. The man really is a miracle worker. Randy Cain is no slouch either!

Randy, I hope all is well with you.

See ya around

A chance to train with Louis and Scott Reitz at the same time? Wow! Wish I could, but I have other commitments. If you are attending, let us know how it goes (though I already have a pretty good idea;) ).

Denny it's not till July. I didn't book it because hopefully YFA will be closer than ITTS if things go well.

BTT
I probably should have posted this when the class was a month away to begin with. Still have slots open.
