My wife fired a 1950's vintage Model 10 about a month ago and fell in love. She said the gun fit her "perfectly" and she didn't have any problems with the DA pull.

We've been looking for a nice one for her since then and I recently saw an ad for a minty Model 10 on a local forum and I jumped on it. The seller just came by and the gun is as good as his description. It's a model 10-5 that was probably somebody's "nightstand gun." It looks new and passed the revolver check out with flying colors. Great lockup, timing, no push off, etc. The screws look like the sideplates never been off.

We got the piece (roscoe? gat?) for $200 with two speedloaders, soft case and paddle holster. I might have been able to find something cheaper, maybe, but I don't think I could find anything nicer.

I tell you though, this thing feels so small in my hand after handling my N-frame 28-2.

Nice deal!

I'm still kicking myself over the 98% 60's model 10 that I let slip by me on gunbroker last year. It went for $189 :cuss:

Beautiful blueing and looked like new. :cuss:

Erich,

It has the skinny "pencil" barrel, which is what she wanted. I think the lighter barrel weight was an important part of why the balance of the gun seemed so good for her.

It also has the older features I prefer: Hammer mounted firing pin, nice finish job and NO @#*! internal lock!

We're going out of town and won't be able to shoot it until we get back. I'm looking forward to her shooting it on the range.

What barrel length did you get ?

I took my 4" skinny barrel out the other day and put several hundred rounds through it in a true plinking engagement. We had a ball or two we were bouncing around the desert. Some pieces of wood out about 50-60 yards, some plastic bottles and stuff at close to that distance. It was great fun; I seldom do stuff like this. I enjoy shooting paper, but I had a ball.

Then I was looking at a Model 10 6" in my dealers case. It has been refinished and he wants too much money for it. But I would like a six inch Model 10 to go with the three 4"s I have now. During this plinking session I also had a Ruger Single Six Bisley with a barrel that is over 6" and I shot it a little when I wanted to let my Model 10 have a break. It is amazing when you are shooting the two side by side how much easier it is to hit with the longer barrel/increased sight radius.

Over a three day period, I ended up going through almost 1000 rounds of .38 Special handloads between the Model 10 and a Model 66.

That's the way things were in the early '60s when your gun was made.

There's alot of nice late models out there too. My father's 1990 Model 19 has the hammer mounted firing pin, great action and finish, superb trigger and no internal lock of course.
