You’re limited to 8 rounds, what’s your choice?

Guess my carry rotation would get slimmed down to just my LCR 38 and PPS 40 might put the retired Colt Officers ACP back in the mix. Home defense would fall to 1911 45 or 10mm and revolvers.

I have been thinking of a Charter Arms Professional, which is a 7-round 32 revolver. Other than that, I have my Browning 1911-380 which would remain a top choice. Other than that, I sometimes consider the Springfield Armory EMP.

That said, How one would respond depends on many factors. I would expect grandfathering of existing firearms. No matter, right now, with no actual legislative proposals, it is just speculation.

I’ve spent MOST of my “carry life” over the last 18yrs carrying pistols which had 8 rounds or less of capacity, so to me, the proposition that this reflects some kind of innate change is a false premise. All of the compelling reasons slimline autoloaders have always been the best options for carry remain compelling whether round count is artificially limited to 8 or not.

Guns that I own or have owned that I'd recommend in that cap range are 1911 (.45 or 10mm, and a compact 1911 in 9mm is 8 rounds), sig p220, Star BM, Zastava M88A. I do love revolvers but below .44 mag there's some autoloading calibers just as effective. Also S&W Shields in 9mm & .45. And EZ380.

If I was limited to less than 10 rounds I'd focus on .45, 10mm, .40s&w or .357 sig and skip 9mm. It's a very versatile round and cheap for range plinking.

Interesting choices. I haven’t been aware of the astra that was named.

I guess my thinking is that I don’t particularly like high cap 9mm guns or the spray and pray mentality they have spawned. So with the 9mm being neutered by round count limitation.... is it still queen for all those that like it. And if it’s only merit is high capacity.... what then is the choice?

And in this theoretical world ya do get all the spare mags and backup guns ya want. If I’m not mistaken, NY state did just this a while back, minus confiscation, limiting mags to legal use with only 7 rounds. So it’s certainly not that far fetched of an idea.

For a similar size and weight gun? Shootability. Less recoil. Quicker double taps.

My .32 mag revolver is easier to shoot and less painful than my same weight .38 special revolver launching +P loads. Both being low capacity guns.

Look at the muzzle rise on the single stack G36.

This in a 48/43x would be nice. Slim and powerful.

I could get with this, stack and a half 10+1 10mm with just a slightly thicker gun or 7+1 single stack. Especially if Glock finally gets their short recoil, locked breech, rotating barrel design fielded here in the states. Even better if they start looking at a gas system similar to the S&W 5.7 with their "Tempo" system, that looks like it would be nice to tame a 10mm in a small package like the G48.

Interesting replies. Thanks all for sharing. God hope we don’t have to ever give up the options we have.
