I have a buddy who is taking me hunting up here in WA with my shotgun because the area is restricted to shotgun or Bow, the question I have is this is my first hunt with slug, any pointers not a fancy shotgun at all just a maverick 88 with modified choke , any advice for this hunt, and what would I need to bring in case I actually get my first kill to skin it never did that before either. thanks in advance

Sight your shotgun in. At least know where it hits at 25, 50 and 75 yards. 75 is a stretch without sights. Try different slugs. Don't think that the high priced brand is any better than the $2.88 mart special.
Do your homework and good luck.

Skinning

I use two knives that I keep really sharp one is a 2.5" lockblade pocket knife and the other is a Buck 103 skinner. Remember when cleaning hang top to bottom, and bag the entrails as it is illegal in alot of places to bury them. Oh yeah wear lots of orange.

Sighting in: +1 to what Adkwoodsman said. Remember that the thin-walled shotgun barrel will heat up a lot faster than a rifle barrel. You must allow time between shots for the barrel to cool. Don't zip off five rounds in 30 seconds and expect an accurate sight-in.

"...Not a problem..." Not even a little. Knives, a bone saw and sharpening tools are required, of course, but take some rubber gloves too. You won't be skinning in the field, but gutting a deer is messy work. Cabelas sells shoulder length rubber gloves in a kit for $2.99 and a kit that has gloves, a spray for killing bacteria, hand wipes and a tool for disconnecting the deer's bung hole for $20.
Assuming your buddy has been hunting for a while, he'll likely have most of the other stuff. A bunch of cheescloth isn't a bad idea though. Keeps the flies and bugs off the meat. An 8x8 plastic tarp, nylon rope and a great big cooler.

Modified choke is not a problem. Before I purchased my Ithaca 37 slug gun and added a 1 X 4 Leupold I borrowed a buddy's 12 with modified choke and it was a tack driver.

Well it may not be a prob but a Improved cylinder choke does not cost much. I bulged my barrel with imp. mod. choke in a 1300 a few years ago, switching chokes would have saved me a lot................

If you don't mind spending some $$ for a better hunt try these-

The will only work if you have a vent. rib on your barrel.
