If I remember correctly, he played a Japanese officer, no? Or was that one of the "Outer Limits" episodes he starred in?

Ive often wondered about the muzzle device fitted to Hanley's carbine-

it doesnt look like a blank-firing attachment. My Inland has a similiar thing brazed on-

Its only purpose I can fathom is as a crown protector- a function it certainly does well.:confused:o_O

With regards to how the carbine Rick Jason used firing blanks; first, he actually used several carbines. This became accidentally obvious in one episode in which he was outside with a carbine WITH a bayone lug, walked inside having a carbine without the lug, and returned outside with the first weapon. Minor continuity flaw only a carbine nerd would see.
The guns were altered via an insert into the barrel, which was invisible from outside. I recall reading somewhere that the Garands were altered in some unusual way using screws which were filed down, and after the show they were removed, but the barrels had been too badly scarred to shoot effectively.
Sometime later in time, some company made Thompson barrels specifically for blanks. The were so marked on the outside and could not chamber live ammo.

I own a blank firing adapter for my carbine. It fits on over the barrel and twists across the back of the front sight to hold it on. It has 3 or 4 tiny holes to vent gas.
It is very obvious the gun has it attached when it's there. It would have looked odd-ball to a movie viewer who was unaware of the purpose and to those who did know, well, so much for "suspension of disbelief."

I don't think Leonard Nimoy played a Japanese officer in COMBAT!. The series was set in Northern France and the Nazi army was the enemy. I barely recall the episode he was in .... don't know if he played a regular soldier .... medic... whatever.

If he was in THE OUTER LIMITS I don't recall it at all ....

I do recall William Shatner playing a Burmese man in an episode of THE NAKED CITY, with weird slick-back hair and a .... "Burmese" accent that was quite ....entertaining ....:what:

Looked into converting m1 carbines to shoot blanks for movie props.. especial in das Olden days.

Was actually looking at converting an m1 carbine so that it would shoot blanks like they would in 1960s movies.

There was a really fascinating discussion of the current art of blank firing movie gun conversions on Forgotten Weapons last year, including several demonstrations at the end.

I remember them now! Thanks!

I loved THE OUTER LIMITS as a kid -- love it now too, I have the DVDs.... just haven't watched them in years.

Going back to the original thought of this thread,,,
One does meet nice people at the range.

Years ago, when I got the itch for a "Wonder-9" pistol,,,
The members of my rifle & Pistol club were very generous.

When I saw someone with a pistol I hadn't fired,,,
I would open my case and offer them a few rounds from any gun in my Harem.

I always had a box of 9mm ball ammo so I wasn't shooting their stock,,,
Most people were very nice in allowing me to try their guns.

Some folk weren't keen on the idea of letting a stranger shoot their guns,,,
But I found that most people there, since it's a members only club, were okay with the idea.

Heck, I don't allow everybody who asks to shoot my guns either,,,
But if I've seen them being safe and sane I usually say why the heck not.

My 629 got a lot of use in those days,,,
Everyone wanted to shoot the Big-Boomer.

Anyways, I got to shoot just about every Wonder-9 that existed that year,,,
I quit testing when one gentleman allowed me two mags through his CZ-75B.

The clouds parted and a warm ray of sunshine bathed my hand,,,
Angelic choir music wafted down from the heavens,,,
The CZ sang sweetly to me as I held it.

Put the 9mm and the .22 Kadet on order the very next Monday.

Anyways, just another story about nice people sharing their range toys.

It is a delightful shooter -- I recently added a CZ75B SA to my arsenal with a Kadet adapter. One of my cats also fell in love with it at first sight:

I had some problems at first with the Kadet's slide constantly locking open in the middle of a magazine, then I recalled that they had included two slide stops of differing lengths. The shorter one doesn't lock the slide automatically on the last shot, but I'm good at counting shots.

Dave

I have the Kadet .22 conversion for my P01 and after a little careful filing and fitting, I got it up and running. Works best with the shorter slide stop.
