I pick up my grandson, JohnLee, today and went over the my Ex’s house to shoot with Gunner.
First we had a little safety class then went over sight alinement and sight picture. We did some shooting with some single shot 22’s.
Then I took out the Marlin XT 22VR. One said, now that’s a sniper rifle.
I asked is they knew how to play battleship and they said yes. I then pulled out the battleship target and said let’s play it with the rifle.
They decided that they would take turns shooting three rounds each.
It was a close one but JohnLee won the game. Here they are in combat mode.

It was a close fight with few misses.

After the battle we set out some fun reactive targets and had some fun.

How's that played though? Shouldn't it be the targets with dots are covered with an identical target that has no dots then the other player would have to guess which square to shoot? Like the board game. Idk.

Anyways, good job Gunny!

It would be pretty hard to play if your targets were hidden like in the original game. With the target it relies on the shooters skill to be able to hit the dots.
And then it’s up to the players to decide how they will shoot. The boys decided on taking turns shooting three rounds each. You could do it for speed if you wanted, but there are many different ways if you use your imagination.

Never too young to introduce the Cartesian coordinate system!

That's sum fine shooting!

I used to build 3-D ship targets out of heavy gauge construction paper and had a blast blowing them to smithereens. You could target specific spots like gun turrets, magazines, or the engineering spaces for an extra challenge. The Bismark, Yamato, and Graf Spee all felt my wrath!

Plastic model kits are a hoot too, though they tend to spin around and throw shrapnel everywhere, lol.

Looks like a great way for the boys to learn marksmanship skills while having a bunch of fun and friendly competition doing it! I let my kids shoot at water bottles, aluminum cans, filled pop cans, various fruits and vegetables, and of course Green Army Men!

If you placed a target with squares over the squared targets that had dots, it'd cover the dotted ones and still allow the shooter to shoot separate squares without knowing which one had a dot under it. Like the game.

I'm way over thinking this. Nice to see new shooters enjoying the sport. And an old shooter passing it on.

I take the tic tack toe, battleship, and the target that is the handgun training target from ez2c direct.

Every time at my local charlotte nc indoor range that I see a father son team doing some shooting I pull two targets of each one and gift it to them. I also give them the idea of the better shooter using a5-10 foot handicap.

I don't have kids but the memories of being taught to shoot are incredibly fond. Wish i had all those super cheap bricks of 22lr now.
