For your CCW handgun with an ON/OFF (switchable) safety...

What position do you keep the safety while carrying and before drawing?

****Referring to any safety that could be selectable to be either on or off while holstered.

I voted "none of my CCW guns has a safety"

which is not exactly true; cuz the SIG-SAUER Classic
P-series incorporates the use of 3 passive
safety's. When I'm not armed with my beloved
.45 caliber SIG P220A (which is RARE); then I'm
armed with an old, original .38 Special Smith &
Wesson model 60.

I generally carry a SA/DA pistol so Safety Off.Most of them are G Model Beretta anyway so there is no safety to speak of.(the one between my ears works best anyway)!:what:

This poll made me realize none of the handguns I've ever carried (M85CH, G19, K9 and P32) have external safeties.

Never realized that before.

My K9 doesn't need an external safety anyway, it's absolute perfection as-is.

safety always on... haven't found a good way (or reason) to disable the squeeze cocker.

I voted "Safety always off", but I don't ever CCW a SA.
My DAO has no external safety (main carry).
My DA/SA is carried "Safety Off". (sometime carry).

How about a 'Depends on the gun'?

On a 1911, the safety is on, on something like the Taurus PT99 (which I never carry) the safety would be off.

But I carry DAOs - a Kahr or a Glock. And my safeties are between my ears and between my thumb and middle fingers. ;)

1911 cocked & locked. The 442 has no safety, other than what's between my ears. I like to think that is always on 'safe' as well.

Carry safety off since Hk is da/sa

Edit when i get the snub to carry i wont have to worry about it

Both, depending on what I'm carrying.

1911, safety ON
P-22, safety off, and in DA mode.

It depends.

On 1911's the safety's on.

Revolvers have no safety.

What I assume you were wondering about, though, were guns of the Beretta/S&W ilk; DA/SA's with hammer-dropping safeties. When I carried those, I left the safety off, only using it as a hammer-dropper.

I voted safety on, due to liking many single action autos. My revolvers and xds dont have manual safety, and when my brother gets the bersa .380 he wants, it will probally be carried hammer down, safety off. It all depends on the gun design.

Hmmm... sorry for any confusion everybody.

I was referring to any safety that could be selectable to be either on or off while holstered. I guess that wording might be better. Thanks for the input so far!

:D

1911 cocked & locked - safety always on

AMT .45 Backup - DAO - no safety (Yep, I apparently have one of the very few that run like a clock, and I love the little thing!)

Those are the only two I carry regularly.

Ok.....only my 1911's have a safety

But......

IF your weapon has a safety....

THEN...you are obliged to make disengaging the safety an integral part of your draw stroke. Build that muscle memory...

BECAUSE....some day Mr. Murphy will see to it that your safety is on

AND it will be very embarrassing ...and potentially fatal to find out the hard way that your gun is not ready to go BOOM.

SO....if you are going to disengage your safety...every time...no matter what...even if it is already off...

Why not carry it on-safe??

Go ahead....splain it to me....please use small words.....

Because IMHO if you don't want to use the safety...carry a gun that doesn't have one.
