Your chosen 'MinuteMan' rifle....

I think for a minuteman/militia "Man the line and defend the homeland"
type of scenario I would go for the M1A. For an urban SHTF/TEOTWAWKI
situation, I'd be much more inclined to go with the sidefolder AK.

It's all relative though, and the two instances could overlap one another
considerably. Who knows? That's why I keep LBE and packout equipt. for
both choices handy.

Keep your powder dry!

I'd pick Something, anything, in .223/.308/7.62x39/.30-'06

If it were real trouble, I would not 'go it alone' with an oddball, or a C&R rifle, like K-31/mosin. As nice as they are, parts and ammo are just too hard to get, and when you get them, they are usually old, and or used.

A basic AR that's been run through the ringer, or a Mini 14, an AK, or M1A/Garand/cetme/Fal would do well enough more or less.

7.62x39 is even on the questionable side....In the case of an invasion, don't count on Russia/Eastern Europe shipping much ammo to aid us. ;) They will most definitely be party to any strife born on US soil, whether through overt action, or through an eye's wink.

Chances are that if anyone "invades" us, they will be using 7.62 x 39 anyway, so I wouldn't worry much about "getting aid" from Russia. Most of our current enemies, hell most of the rest of the world, uses 7.62 x 39.

As for me, I suppose I'd grab my AR, a couple of Glocks (.40), and a 12 guage. I am larger than most people, so I do not move quick, but can pack like a mule...

A little OT, but -

Armoredman: nice cammo, but you should do something about those glasses. Head-to-toe cammo isn't going to help if those babies start reflecting flashes of light  (I wear prescription glasses 24/7, so I have the same problem.)

My M1A and my 1911A1.

How patriotic.

I would definently consider a rifle in 7.62x39. Considering most of the fighting would be in MOUT and range wouldn't be a huge issue in my opinion. Ak rounds have sufficient stopping power and those commie weapons sure are tough.

How patriotic.

In my estimation, lwrnc1963 has it spot on, as an M1A and 1911 are perfect for the situation.

If that's patriotic, then all the better! Count me as patriotic too, Heavy Metal Hero.

BTW - Last time I checked, being patriotic was a good thing. Of course these days it's hard to tell...

I'd take all my children. my k31, m48, M1, 1903A3, MP15, enfield MK4 II (although the cosmo will have to go), my cz pcr, and lastly my kimber. I'd feel bad if I left any of them behind, so I'll use to mp15 for general close up stuff, probably with the PCR in my belt. I'd bring along acouple of my equally nutso friends to act as pack mules for the rest of my guns (hah and they though I actually valued their companionship). hey who wants to guess where all my tuition money has gone?

I keep all of the rifles in my safe properly cleaned and lubed with a number of loaded mags/strippers at the ready.

The FAL would go to me, the AK to my girlfriend, and the Tula SKS would be a back-up rifle.

That may change soon, though, as I haven't gotten a chance to take the SKS to the range. My girlfriend loves the AK so we know she's a fan of the 7.62 Soviet, and when I brought the SKS home her first words upon seeing it were, "oooohhhh... preeeettyyyy." That may end up being her go to gun.

Oh these are fun. :D

If it were a Katrina style "don't mess with me and I won't mess with you" situation, I'd grab my AR carbean. If it were a long term, full out, hollywood epic, all the rules just went up in smoke situation, probably my PTR-91.

Both backed up by my Grandad's old 1911A1 of course. :)

I know you're gonna think I'm crazy, but...

I'd have to have my su-16. It's lightweight and fairly accurate to medium ranges, barely kicks, and is easy to keep on target. It really is more durable than it gets credit for, at least IMHO.

If I could manage the weight I'd take my vz-24 mauser, because it's a tack driver at long ranges and I don't have an M1a (yet?).

In a long-term SHTF situation I'd also want my .22 target pistol for survival hunting. Great accuracy, quiet, and lightweight ammo.

I know about the glasses, can't afford the surgery, can't wear contacts, but normally I have a boonie hat or longbilled ball cap on, so that will cut down glare...I hope. Sorry.
All I can do is shoot straight, first.

I'd grab one of my ARs, my pack of loaded mags, and mount up. Which one of my ARs I grab would be a direct reflection of my mood at the time:D
