Your "Go-to" pistol powder

I can always find loads for any pistol caliber using Unique. I prefer Bullseye for .45, followed by AA#5 (dirty though!), 7 or 800-X for .38 (When I reloaded shotgun shells, which I might start doing again), when I start loading 9mm, I'll probably try Unique first.

A few years ago I got a deal on 4 #4 jugs of maxam csb-1.
Used it for darn near everything from 32 acp to 45-70.
I'm down to 1.5 jugs now.
It'll be back to old unique/universal when I run out.

Pistol powder is a beautiful thing. You can find loads for all pistol cartridges with every powder. Some not optimum, but most acceptable.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but the point is valid, pistol powders can be very versatile.

Yea a little exaggerated, but if we throw out everything slower than blue dot it’s almost true especially if your a cast bullet man.

SR4756 is my favorite pistol powder. Meters very nice and makes good hot loads in 9mm and 45. I’ve even used it in my 30-30 cast loads. It’s on the slow side of the mid range pistol powders so it’s capable of use in magnums as well.

I have tried:

W231
Longshot
Power Pistol
TrailBoss
BE-86

for 9mm, 45LC, 357Mag, 38spc

My go to powder is now BE-86 meters very well, very versatile and great performance at all ranges for 9mm, 45LC, 357mag, 38spc.

For thirty years I did all pistol loading with w231, hs-6, or h110.

Recently I tried blue dot, long shot, and be-86.

I bought an 8 pounder of the be-86.

When I get through what I have I'm going to be a Bullseye guy.

At the moment I have:
a couple ounces of 700-X
1/3 pound of Universal
1/4 pound of Bullseye
2 pounds of Unique
1 pound of Power Pistol
1 pound of BE-86
1 pound of AA#7

At 6 grains per round this is about 6,700 rounds. It's going to take a while.

All the Best,
D. White

W-231, Bullseye, Unique are my go to powders for 9mm, 38spl, 45ACP
2400 in the 44mag.
but currently trying out N310 in the 45ACP with Zero 185gr. JHP

I shudder at the thought of only having access to one powder, but if I had to I would say Unique like everyone else. BE86 is supposed to be a more modern version of Unique, so I bought a jug when Sportsman’s Warehouse had it on sale. I might get around to using it one day.

For now my most useful powders are probably 2400 for 357 and 44 revolver loads and cast bullets in rifles, AA#9 for 10mm, Red Dot/Promo for 9mm, 40 and 45.

I load only 38 spl and 357 mag, and I wanted to get my reloading shelf as uncluttered as possible, so I landed on HS6 for both. Good for 38+p+ and mid level mag loads, and eventually shotgun shells if I decide to start loading them. I like tools that can multitask.

I did work my way through a bottle of H110 for mag loads but I felt like that powder was rattling my teeth loose so I stopped using it.
