Smith Wesson 686-3 with 6 inch barrel and Aimpoint 3000 red dot.

3.5 inch groups at 50 yds benched on sandbags. 158 grain Lee TL SWC or RN over 4.3 grains 700x, Federal or Winchester SP, 38 spl brass.

A new 1911 from the S&W Custom Shop is amazingly accurate. Even more so then some other custom 1911s I have, though all are combat oriented guns vs target guns, but I cut this card at 21ft/7 yards.

If you have to take one shot, and only one shot with a reasonable amount of time to aim at a target, what handgun would you use?

Single shot - TC Super 14 in .223
Revolver - Smith 686 or 629
Semi-auto - Ruger MKII or Smith 41

"never shot a S&W 1911...very impressive."

That's from a the custom shop, so it's not the standard SW 1911 you will see.

My S&W Mountain Gun is scary accurate, in .45 Colt. My Kimber Pro CDP is dead-eye accurate too. Tough choice. Glock 27 is amazingly accurate too, as is my Glock 24C, G20, G21, etc. Matter of fact, all of them are pretty darned accurate!

my most accurate is a mkiii 22/45.

Any stories of miraculous shots to go along with these choices?

my most miraculous shot came about out of a 4" s&w 586-1. standard american eagle 158gr jfp, 60yds. took careful aim at a pine cone sitting on a tree stump. it took every ounce of self control not to whoop and holler when i hit it. i calmly put my smith back in its holster, played it off like it was nothin, and hoped nobody asked me to repeat my shot.

If a .22 rimfire is admissible, my .22 Korth or S&W K-22. In centerfire it would be my SIG P210-4, or my old S&W M14-2.

S&W 625 5" Bbl. w/full underlug

Load: Leadhead hardcast 200 gr. SWC @ 1,000+ FPS.

Both of my XD's are real accurate. I shoot them both real good which is surprising for me because for some odd reason I have never shot a pistol very good. I am having a ball with these two XD's.

my sa xd service model in .40s&w, there is nothing that i shoot better and am more trained with, and more confident in.

Of my own guns it would be my S&W Mod 19 with a good .38 Spl.

Of all the guns I've shot it would be the frankenstein 586/686 combo that belongs to the range where I shoot. That thing was AMAZING! ! ! !
