I’m not a real big knife enthusiast, that’s my brother. He had an Estwing ax when he was in high school that could literally shave, now days he is much more of a knife nerd than he was then, studying metals stones and such as that. In contrast, to me it’s just a tool to be used up and replaced, they are essentially disposable.

I just use a knife as a multi tool, it gets dull fast and stays that way, I do occasionally sharpen with a work sharp sharpener I got for Christmas some years ago. He stays on me about having a dull knife, because I normally do, he picks on me for using something other than a stone to sharpen with. I use my knife hard, he says I abuse it and he’s probably right, but that’s what they are for as far as I’m concerned.

The most expensive pocket knife I’ve ever owned was an old 3 bladed Case XX, I’ve had several because my old boss replaced them when lost on the job, and I’ve been bad about loosing a pocket knife.

Now days I have a cheap Spyderco that was a freebie from a friend, I’ve had it for 5-ish years which got me to thinking about upgrading to one of the new models.

That older brother is always telling me about these new super duper, tough, never dull, can stop a 44 magnum steels. He has told me on more than one occasion what I need is something with a S90V blade. So vacationing in the south means every good red neck, hill Billy, and country boy goes by the SMKW store. I’m on vacation so money is getting burn like a leaf pile anyway, so I finally decided to try one of these over priced knives. He is a hardcore Benchmade guy, but they feel a little thick to me, and I’ve very much grown to love the spidey hole, so I did stick with a Spyderco, and went with a little larger knife which I hope wasn’t a mistake.

Spyderco knives are nice, they're not afraid to try different steels. Over the years, I think they've used just about every steel there is.

Some of their designers come up with amazing designs. Just saw the new Lum Tanto was released.

My latest acquisition is a Smock, a friend has taken over by letting me know all the ways I (he would) should modify it. ;)

I think I have enough knives to EDC a different one for every day of the year. But still carry my Kershaw Blur because it does everything I need it to do. In my EDC rotation are only a few knives, just depends on the mood I'm in that day.

I only have one Spyderco but I like it. Para 3 LW, perfect summertime carry. Came very sharp and it's hanging in there. Enjoy your new knife, I like the look. And the lock.

I carried the same pocket knife thru 3 presidents. It has slowed and needs parts that Im too lazy to find.
I went to Amazon and got a EF 973 knife. Cheap ($30) Carbon steel (no stainless here ever), and a flipper to boot.
Its a nasty sharp knife that didnt cost $150 like my last one.
Now to see if it lasts as long.

My opinion on stainless knives period. I will not use them.

funny you mention the lock, by far my biggest complaint with my old knife is that lock, occasionally when using it in some manner I probably shouldn’t be using it in, I have had it fail.
I’ve only had it few days, but so far I’m digging it, hopefully I can keep up with it.

I have been told, repeatedly, not to use it as a pry bar but that’s not something I really do anyway… I learned that lesson as a teenager.

Cool! I’m not a Spyderco guy but I nod my head to those who are. Great knives.
However…… a Shaman……….

Very nice. For your first "overpriced knife" you certainly dove pretty deep in the pool of Spyderco. A sprint run Siren with carbon scales and S90 blade steel. That's an awesome piece and awesome you are actually going to use it for your EDC.

I like Spyderco. Had my Marines gift me an all Stainless Delica when I left that unit back in 1995 and I carried it until 2004 when on a deployment another Marine, I stupidly allowed to use it, somehow broke the lock. I have had nothing but Spyderco as my EDC since that first one. I have a bunch in my collection but I stick to the regular classic models for EDC. The Delica and Dragonfly are my favorites.

Well to be fair their wasn’t a huge selection of S90V Spyderco’s. That’s the steel I was told would be best suited for me, time will tell on that one. And this knife, even though larger than my old one, is lighter. Also the carbon fiber scales have a good texture on them that I can hold on to which is another serious upgrade from my old EDC.
So far it’s meeting expectations, now I just have to not lose it. Buying it on vacation helped with cost. Well, it just comes out of a different part of the budget, which is the part the wife gets the majority of.
