Do you think that a H&K USP in 9mm would make a good range gun? I want to get a full-sized handgun in 9mm for range and home use, and really like the feel of the USP models (and their safety options).

But for the range, do you think I would be better served in something non-polymer, like a Beretta 92 or Sig 226? Or do you think the recoil system in the USP makes all of these guns the same in the recoil feel department?

The USP 9mm recoil will be as soft as any. I think the Sig is a better 9mm (I've owned both), but the Sig fits me better, so I'm a little biased.

I don't think the USP recoil reduction thing reaches its potential untill you get to .40 and .45 calibers.

It'll make a fine range gun, as would a SIG, Beretta, Ruger, Springfield, or Glock. It's all up to what feels best for you. During the winter I actually prefer my plastic pistols for range trips because they don't get as cold to hold as the ones with metal lowers.

I am going with the general consensus in that you would be fine to use the USP 9mm as a range gun. It is a large gun for carry Thats why they make the USPc 9mm.

Either way I would definately agree with PO2Hammer that you dont get the full potential from the recoil reduction until you get to the .40 S&W caliber.

My preference is to use the fullsize or larger handguns as range only guns. However if I can comfortable carry it and it is concealed I would consider it fr carry.

The USP is an excellent range gun. If you are concerned about wearing out your high $ gun at the range though, get a CZ. A lot cheaper and more than likely as accurate if not better.

No concerns about wear at all - I just wanted to see how stable of a platform it is to shoot for long periods of time, and if maybe a heavier steel gun would be more beneficial.

The USP9 is an awesome range gun. Compared to the P226 and Beretta 92FS?

I recently sold off my Beretta 92fs inox, and my P226 is stored in it's case. Although the USP has a polymer frame, I feel it recoils slightly less than the SIG P226. Overall durability of all three platforms are excellent. My P226 has the best trigger overall, but the availability to carry condition 1 is what makes me bring the USP to every range trip now.

One gripe though. The stock sights SUCK! I changed them out to Heinie straight 8s, and it's much more fun to shoot.

+1 ARTiger

CZ75 is a great shooter for cheap $, but I wouldn't worry about wearing out any of the guns you have listed. You'd go broke buying ammo before that happend :neener:

I have one right next to me want to buy it? I want another p2000 they are alot better for me. I have big and long hand's. With the usp i alway's pinch my hand when i am doing reload drill's the p2000 i have not had that once.

Hello

I have all three. The Berreta always goes to the range with me. IMO, it's the nicest shooting full size 9mm. My USP9 sits in the safe, and the Sig 226 gets some use. I have alot of other 9's too, but the Beretta is the nicest for punching holes or ringing steel. It took me a long time to buy a 92 after reading these boards and some of the luke warm ratings. I like it so much, I'm looking for another one. Duplicates is something I only did for Glocks.
That said I would never (well I did a couple of times) carry it. The size and funky safety/decocker is too much of a change from my normal carry guns.
If you have money to burn make your long term goal aquiring all three. But, buy what you like and be happy. If you are like me, as soon as one gets home you are looking for the next.

9mm has a pretty managable recoil. The HK is a fine choice, but this CZ 75 talk . . . I have to agree with. Either are great.

The HK USP 9 would make a great range gun, IDPA gun, duty gun, carry gun or general purpose pistol! HK makes some good stuff!
