Thoughts on an H&K USP40c ??

Never had an H&K but might have a chance to get one at a decent price. If so, I'd have to sell a stainless Charter .44spl. carry gun and probably a Swiss P225 as well to finance it. Anyone have an H&K or had one at one time? Are they the cadillac of polymer guns as some say?

Maybe another way to think about it: If you could get the USP for the same price as the Glock, would you go with the USP or Glock?

The USP Compact is a superb weapon. The trigger tends to be a bit heavy in DA mode. It is easily converted to the LEM trigger however. It is very compact and easy to carry concealed. Accuracy is superb...It's unlikely that you will be disappointed with it but do remember that it is an older design. The P2000 and P30 pistols are more modern and sleaker designs. I'm not too sure that I would get rid of a Swiss Police SIG P225/P6 for a USP Compact..

I have the HK-USPcompact in .45 as well as a number of other compact .45's and 9mm's (Sigs, CZ's, SW 2nd and 3rd gens, Beretta ). My DA/SA pistol has the worst DA trigger of any of my pistols- long, heavy and severely stacks before firing. Mags are over $50 each and I've had problems getting simple aftermarket parts. It is reliable and accurate however. It sounds like you're trading away too much for the HK, especially with the Sig 225. If faced with the choice of a Glock vs. the HK-USPc at the same price I would easily choose the Glock- better trigger and cheaper/more available mags and parts (and I am not a Glock fan). Good luck.

The HK USPc 9 (have) and 40 (had) are excellent pistols, but I'd never sell the Swiss P225 to fund the HK.

Thanks, fellas. I really appreciate your thoughts. I do love my 225 yet, as I age, I'm finding it more difficult to think fast. I'm wondering if it's time to look into a DAO semi or the LEM trigger on the USP40c. The H&K I'm looking at is a PD trade-in in VG condition and does have the LEM trigger already and well under $500. Maybe simpler is better for me and that first DA shot and subsequent SA shot on the SIG, in a stressful situation (even though I practice), will cause me to shank that second shot ? That's why I carry my Charter actually, but it is bulky even though it is a snubby.

H&k 45c

I have a H&K 45C and it's a very good pistol. There is one thing I like about the recoil and is worth mentioning. H&K says the pistol has a 30% reduction in recoil. I don't necessarily agree that it feels that way. However the recoil is different in some way. At times I fire a 3 mag drill at 7 yards with a standard silhouette target with 230 gr. ammo. I have no timer but my watch second hand. I can empty 3 mags with aimed fire as quick as I can acquire the sight picture. With all rounds in the 8-9-10-X rings in just a tad over 20 seconds. This is quicker than I can do that with most pistols. I do this at an indoor range starting with the pistol loaded and placed on the shelf with 2 extra mags. The recoil of the 45C is different enough be a little quicker. I like that attribute. However, I do not like the capacity and seldom carry the piece.

It is my duty carry gun. I also shoot it in the local 'combat' match, where it does very well for a 'real' gun vice a game gun.

Adequate power, good sights, adequate trigger, reasonable size.

As to trading off your current guns, I can't decide for you.

I would not part with a montage suisse p225 for a USPc.

If a simple DAO setup is what you want then look at a Glock or S&W M&P Compact. The HK LEM trigger is "unusual" to say the least. I've had a few and have also converted a few for friends that have HK's. I'd say 70% of them end up switching back to the DA/SA trigger after a while.

Thanks so much guys! I did hold a Glock 23 but didn't like the fat and smooth grip. An M&P is a possibility at some point but have read where a few presented some problems. I did go ahead and sent payment for the H&K, so I'm hoping for a good one! And with practice, I hope to master the LEM trigger set-up. I am just too old to trust my second shot with the DA/SA's anymore I'm afraid.

I also decided to sell my rarely used P220 Carry instead of the Swiss 225 due to all the concerns voiced here which I sincerely appreciated! That should help pay for the H&K I'm getting for well under $500. I might even be able to keep the Bulldog.

Actually, for around the same price I'd go with the SA XDm 3.8 Compact. Otherwise it would be the H&K for the same money as a Glock. I can't recommend any Glock in .40 S&W for a couple of reasons, chief among them is the poor support of the casehead. Secondary would be not wanting to shoot cast lead reloads through a pistol with a polygonal bore.

Like everyone else seems to think, I wouldn't part with that P-225!

a big no from me, ive finally given up on 'HK USPs after having 6 different varients of it including the compact 40, the bore of axis is just way too high, the pistol too chunky and fat and the checkering on the front strap did no agree with me

In .40 HK USP compact mags are about $30. For some reason the .357 sig mags are cheaper than .40 so i just go with those.
