Your thoughts on a Taurus PT 145?

Ive been looking at a picking up a 45 cal...looking at the Glock 30, 36 and 39 but also the Taurus PT 145 because of its reasonable price. Let e know your thoughts...mainly on the Taurus. Thanks in advance!!!

I had one . It went back to be worked on and was not fixed when I got it back. I traded it plus cash for a LCP. Glock 30 is a much better gun imo.

I have the 24/7 Pro 45. It is my main carry weapon. Shoots every time I pull the trigger. Accruate too.

I bought a Taurus PT145 for my wife. It was her self defense gun. We were at the range one day getting some practice in when after half of the first magazine, the gun stopped shooting. I inspected the round that didn't fire, it had a light firing pin strike. I tried a handful of more and the same for them too.

I took the gun apart (certified gunsmith) to find that the firing pin lock (safety mechanism taurus puts on their autos) broke in half and fell into the firing pin hole, causing light strikes. I sent it back to taurus and seven weeks later it came back. I traded it the very next day.

Had she needed it for self defense, she wouldn't be here today! I would recommend the Glock over the Taurus unless you are talking revolvers.

Whats the difference between a pt 745 and a pt 145?

PT 745 is single stack. Pt 145 is double stack.

I love mine, but I've heard lots of horror stories too. Because mine has worked so well I'm glad I have it. But if I were risking my money now, I'd probably have to go with a brand that shows more consistency.

I am sure you know that the Glock 39 is a .45 GAP, not a .45 Automatic (ACP).

I love my PT145. It is TOTALLY relioable and is a comfort to carry in a Crossbreed. I LOVE it.

ive had a pt145 for three years and love it,also have a glock 26 i started to buy a glock 30 a friend of mine had one and i tried it wouldnt trade my 145 for a 30 lots more recoil.

The PT145 Pro is definitely a more concealable gun than the Glock, though they're roughly the same size. The Taurus is thinner, and for me, fits my hand much better. The Taurus will be hit or miss, based on everything I've read (and my own experience [I own a 3rd Gen PT 145 Pro SS]), while the Glock will provide "boring reliability." You've really got to shoot them both.
If this isn't for concealed carry, I wouldn't buy either. I'd go for a larger gun. These short-barreled .45's are just not as fun to shoot for any length of time, IMHO. They are great for concealment, but they will be rather punishing if they're only meant for range/HD duty. Also check out the Springfield XD series, as they have the other strong entry into this market at a reasonable (sometimes less than Glock) price. Their ergonomics, for me, are better than Glock.

I wanted the PT series to be reliable and tried to convince myself that the complaints people come up with every time they're mentioned are just flukes...lots and lots of flukes...but I just can't. There are too many people who complain they're unreliable and I'm not going to take the risk. It's a shame because the PT-111 was everything that I wanted, size, caliber, safety, grip feel, appearance, price. But even the guy at the gun store who wanted to sell it to me was honest, that they're great guns "if you get one that works." I bought a Cougar and I'm glad.

It's hard to beat the price of the Taurus PT-145 isn't it? There was a sale in Orlando recently; the PT-145 and 2 mags for $329. I'm another happy and content PT-145 owner. I did a lot of reading before making up my mind. I wish the gun shops would realize that they could make a little money on a box of ammo while we tried out a firearm so we could decide by doing more than just looking at it and holding it in our hand. As with every brand on the market, a bad one happens. You will read sad stories like that that about even the most famous and expensive brands on the market. (I have a friend that is having nothing but problem after problem with his new Kimber.) I shove 200-300 rounds through my PT-145 each time I go to the range and other than one squib (my fault) I've had no problems with it. For a short barreled concealable 45 it is hard to best. I offer anyone near me to fire it; only the people that don't like "Tupperware" dismiss it. 2 have bought one after trying it. Having said that, it is not a Sig P220. That was my 1st 45ACP and still my favorite firearm. (I offer people the opportunity to shoot it also. Few pass these offers up. As I reload, the cost is negligible.) But the PT-145 is a very concealable 10+1 45acp that shoots very well. As for the hand punishment, I have no idea where that is coming from. Perhaps if I was to shoot 300 rounds of +P... I don't. My carry ammo is 230gr Remington Golden Sabers. I shoot nothing other than 230gr BTW. Good luck to you. Let us know...

I have one and like it. Probably put 300 rounds through it without any failure. Didn't like the sights so I got some Williams fire sights. The only thing weird was I fired some Winchester 230 gr SXT hollow points and it would eject them on top of my head. Didn't do that with 185 gr gold dot or WWB target rounds.
