Your Xtreme 124gr Flat Point OAL? (9mm)

Hey fellas, I hate to take up space with a boring thread..

Seriously, I'd like to know what OAL you load, or have loaded the Xtreme 124 FP to?

Ive actually been trying to move away from plated and back to FMJ for a little change but I still have quite a few of these and I just noticed that some of the ones Ive loaded at "normal" 9mm OALs (1.135") look a wee bit goofy to me for some reason. (they plunk ok)

I cant get to my factory FPs right now for a comparison but these
seem like ALOT of shank is left outside the case.

Maybe it's all in my mind, as Ive loaded RNs for the past 30 pistol sessions probably, but do you guys load this one to normal lengths?

Thanks for the link, though I do know it should/will be seated shorter than an RN, I was just wondering what OAL most of you end up with for this particular bullet.

I'm curious why you chose FP rather than RN.

I'm loading the Extreme 124gr RN to 1.150 over 4.4gr of WST for my M&P...my buddy wants me to try some 147gr RN Extreme over 4gr. WSF at 1.169

Variety. Just like to mix and match and experiment.

Ive got some RNs and HPs also. I do kind of like how FPs look after completion, well most of the time.

I don't use the FP but the HP which is very close. Mine are loaded for Glocks at 1.120 to 1.125 with Titegroup 3.6 grains.

I load them the same as the Hornady 124 FN. 9th edition shows 1.050
running 5.2 gr Longshot

Just for info the same bullet loaded in 357Sig has a aol of 1.135
so I think your a little long

I am loading the 9MM X-Treme 124 Gr HP at 1.060. A bit short, but it works in my stuff and shoots great. The FP OAL should be similar to the HP.

I agree with everyone else. It seems you are loading your FP to RN specs and that leaves them too long for the design.

Yea, think Im going to squish it down a little on my next ones. Thanks for the help fellas. Im just always a bit leary of that 1.00-1.10" area for some reason. No problem though, will start low and re work. Thanks again everyone..it's nice to be able to come on here and get a question like that answered, instead of just walking around wondering how everyone else does it. Thanks!

My Shield take Xtreme flat points at a 1.120" much longer they hit the lands. My Ruger takes 1.125" much longer they hit the lands.

If they pass the plunk test and cycle fine then the OAL is fine. It's dependent on the chamber in your barrel.

Usually with flat points you do get into cycling issues before hitting the lands.

If you want to change things up a little try some Longshot powder at 5.0-5.5gr. They are fun in full size pistol but not so much in compacts.

I have a box of flat point 9mm that will not feed into any of my XD's. They stick in the rifling.

I set them down to 1.10 and they still stick and cause problems with ejection and feeding. Book says no shorter than 1.10, so I gave up on them and only use round now.

I don't know if it's just an XD chamber issue, but I've had this problem before with flat point feeding in my XD, so I just avoid them now.

Im at 1.045 OAL with 124 Xtreme FP with 4.2 of Green Dot. Punches 1 jagged hole out of my M&P at ~10 yards

1.15 over 4.4g of HP38. Passes the plunk test in both a Ruger P95 and Keltec P11. At 1.15 there is definitely a lot more bearing surface outside the case then you typically see in factory rounds.

I suspect there are many guns that would not fully chamber these, but they shoot well in my guns.
