Oddly enough, a downwardly-plunging firey handbask
I just found out that my Czech Mauser is infact a Yugo 24/47, under closer inspection. Is there anything I should know about it? I got it in what appears to be excellent condition (looks like someone dinged it once or twice) with the leather pouches (cleaning kit and oil bottle, unsure about blank fireing adapter), bayonet, scabbard and frog, and numbers matching for $130. It has some weird english writing on the barrel, off the top of my head it says "Cherry's Inc. (then the fuzzyness sets in) something something".

Good deal? I will post pics next time I get a chance. Gonna shoot it tomorrow.

Thats what I paid for mine and I think I got a GREAT deal. Mine is a little dinged up (the wood) as well but the bore and bolt look like it was never fired. It is a fantastic piece of history and mine is an accurate shooter. You may have gotten a better deal because my #'s don't match and I didn't get the frog for my bayo! Lucky you.

I think what you are refering to as a blank firing adapter is the bore guide for cleaning. The steel cleaning rod that comes with the rifle can play hell over time rubbing the barrel. Bolt actions don't need a blank firing adapter.

I have been using all kinds of ancient surplus through it and haven't had any problems yet, Just watch the old corrosive stuff. I clean right away after shooting.

The price sounds about right.

You have a good solid, reliable rifle that should last you the rest of your life if you care for it.

moparmike,

Nice rifle..... congrats. I have a Yugo 24-47 I bought a couple years back. Shoot like a dream.... Got one of the M48-A's too. They are nice.

One thing about the Yugo rifles.... if what you have truly is a Yugo and not Czech, then you have a rifle built on an "intermediate" length action, NOT a true long action '98. The plethora of parts and wood available out there for a true long action Mauser '98 won't fit Yugos. If you ever need to replace something, you'll have to find replacement Yugo parts.

Best regards,
Swampy
