saw a yugo 59/66 sks "unissued" sks for 249 i've been thinking of getting an sks.but its not a must have. tell me is that a good deal? should i have gotten it

Depends where you are.

Around here, Cabelas in Fort Worth, TX has "new/unissued" Yugo M59/66's for either $149 or $159 (cant remember exactly). When I was there last week, they had at least a dozen in stock.

They are 149.00 at Cabelas. I bought two from them that are immaculate.

249 is pretty high, but it does depend on where you live. The Cabelas in Buda TX has three or four Chinese SKS's for 329.00!:scrutiny:

I think the Yugo is a much better rifle than the Chinese...

Is it All matching Numbers?

SKS's are very suceptable to bad/assorted serialized parts, especially in the gas system (aka gas tube area losing pressure and not cycling because of it)

And, Yeah the Yugos are built a lot heavier then any ive seen.

I have a Russian and a Yugo. The Russian is a shooter, the Yugo is more like a conversation piece with a horrible trigger.

I'm sorry I bought the Yugo.

Ive had 2 yugos. One was rated "very good" condition, I just sold that.
The other is an unissued. Both had all matching parts. I never had any problems with either of them. Just inspect the rifle before you buy it and you should be okay. I wouldnt get a gun unless it was all matching #s.

I got mine for $129 at AIM Surplus. They have them now for $179 and they would ship to your local FFL

Grant - You're right on. Maryland is up there on the list of non-gun friendly states, and we have our troubles getting a number of guns. Particularly handguns that don't ship with a shot casing, and suchlike.

Like I said, I could have paid less, but for the area I'm in I didn't do too bad.

Any SKS is a luck of the draw proposition. I've owned almost 20. I've gotten Russians with pretty shoddy work too(rough triggers, canted sights). Right now, my best shooter with the best trigger is a late model Chinese, stamped parts, pinned barrel and all. But my best Yugo is no slouch either.

However, I would not buy a Yugo SKS that wasn't unissued. Some of those were worked pretty hard and poorly maintained.

I wouldn't put a premium on matching parts though. Its not like these are hand fitted. When they built them, they randomly pulled the parts from a bin, put it on the rifle, headspaced it when complete, then force matched the SNs. Swapping anything but the bolt should make little difference.

The most common problem with the gas system in the Yugo is corrosion on the gas valve. Been there done that.

All of the SKS's I have purchased have worked great.

My Yugo was bought unissued and has been reliable and the trigger is surprisingly very clean and crisp. Great rifle.

Outright lies. My Yugo trigger broke cleanly between 18 and 57 pounds, each and every time! Sort of cleanly, at least.
