Hi Folks, there's not that much info on these things yet, and I have the fortune of picking this up from Academy last week.
background: these things have been imported as remington 798, Charles Daly and Interams mark X. So it's not entirely new, but the latest incarnation was imported by CIA. So Zastava pretty much made and assemble everything over there and Century merely imported it.
More background: i was just shopping for an affordable 308 and saw that Academy is selling Savage Axis (minus accutrigger) for $259 w/o the scope combo. I was handling some howa 1500's, remingtons, and noticed what looked like a Savage hog hunter or something like that. wood stock, rear and front sight installed. So I asked the guy what it was and he said, Oh, this is a mauser build action from serbia. I immediately asked if i can take a look at it and I was hooked. I have been researching about Mausers lately and in fact picked up a milsurp spanish mauser 7mm a month ago intending to use it for range/ hunting purposes but found it hard to mount a scope due to its small ring. So that thing followed me home. Here are some specs:

Barrel is around 22"
twist rate is 300mm (1:12)
walnut stock
bolt safety removed and trigger safety installed
rear sight can be flipped down.
magazine plate is hinged and will swing forward when you press the mag release button on the right side of the trigger guard.
Follower does not have bolt stop ridge and will hold 4 rds
Sling swivel studs included
receiver is drilled for scope mounts.
Comes in an unremarkable cardboard box with bolt removed and wrapped separately.
Action and trigger is rough and heavy BUT after removing the packing grease, it actually pretty nice. - now the claw extractor has a little bulge (for tension) and that what's rubbing on the rear receiver ring causing friction.
The wood stock was poorly finished, maybe just one coat of oil - I use minwax natural finish and it made the stock darker.
I paid $459.00 plus tax.
WARNING: This is an imported firearm and be sure to clean the packing grease. When i got home, i cycled snap caps and it came out covered in grease. I can't even see down the bore due to amount of grease.

I ordered UTG scope mounts due to it being one piece and made of steel. UTG also included a spare set of screws (3 short for front and 3 longer ones for rear receiver ring) which is nice. you can use the mount and the iron sights as you can see in the pic. My rings did not arrive yesterday so I only used iron sights for the break in process.

*Range Time yesterday*

Now different people have different break in procedures but common ground says that "breaking in" is a process to remove the micro burrs from the barrel rifling. So i did what I can: clean after every shot for 10 rds, then clean after 3 rds and another set of 3 due to lack of time.
shooting rest is the cheap basspro shop zero Maxx that I picked up for 30 bux.
bipod and sling were removed.
Range is 50 yds
Ammo is monarch brass case, 150gr
remington low recoil 124 gr?

1st set - monarch, 3 shots, clean in between rounds:

the top hole is from trying to zero my .22

2nd set - remington low recoil, 3 shots, clean in between rounds

1 put the scope from my .22 and fired 4 shots but it went out of adjustments and was just shooting the berm. Clean in between shots

3rd set - monarch again, 3 shots, NO cleaning until 3 shots fired.

NOTES:
I have always used a scope on rifles, so for me seeing the 3" dots at 50 yds is very difficult. the globe like front post swallowed up these dots. So it's definitely the shooter's skill. I was happy with my last group since it's a sign that I'm getting acquainted with the rifle, where to hold, etc. I'm looking forward to get back out with a scope at 100 yds.
barrel is hunter profile so it heats up pretty quick.
After shooting my ak, sub2000 and 10/22, feeling the 308 recoil makes you respect the power behind it and it was kinda fun.

All in all, I'm happy with this rifle and it will serve me for a good while. Thanks for tuning in.
