I'm having a tough time trying to figure out the trigger on my new Remington Model 5, .17 HMR. The rifle is made by Zastava, and is the same rifle that Charles Daly imported for a while. The manual provided by Remington has a diagram that is unreadable because of the text and diagram size, and Charles Daly won't support requests for manuals.

Does anyone out there know how to improve the trigger pull on this little beast?

I have one in .22LR...VERY accurate...great shooter for the $149 I paid for it (including a simmons scope) from CDNN.

Here's the guide I used to adjust my trigger:

Lightening the pull was very easy - backing off a screw which controlled a spring. If you look next to the set screw for the trigger pull you will find a screw about half way down. This is the stop adjustment (will take some creep out) However after you tinker with it, make sure you test it for slam fires in case you have the sear set to light. if you set the stop to high the sear will let go soon as you close the bolt. ( Very Bad ) Make sure you test it first before you let the lil ones have a go at it. After I messed with both screws.

The trigger is screw adjustable for pull weight and creep. if creep is adjusted to very small amounts, the safety slide will not have enough space to move and bar the trigger. there is an adjustment (limited amount) for that also. but the safety slide may also have to be reduced in thickness if not enough adjustment is present.

I did not file the trigger surfaces, but polished with 250 grit , 320 then 400 grit laps. only machine marks were removed. keep intended angles true.

I used that same guide to set my trigger. The hardest part was getting the globs of red paint off the screw heads to make the adjustments. But, it was worth it. I really like the pull on my Model Five now.

Jon, let me know if you are ever going to shoot a Fifty Fifty Sporter Match with your scoped Model Five. I will bring mine as well and we can compare notes. I know it is hard for you to make Saturday matches though. Good luck on this year's deer hunting with that 7MM!

Thanks a Bunch

Thanks to all you folks that know about triggers. I'm gonna take a crack at this beast this weekend.
