whats the differences? i bought some zq1 7.62x51 ammo at wally world. i have a hard time pulling the bolt back on my savage bolt action. (.308)

I have an idea. Not sure it's your issue, but it might be.

The allowable headspace for 7.62x51 is .005" longer than commercial .308 Winchester. There is also .010" tolerance in the headspace dimension for .308.

If you have a rifle with a minimum headspace dimensioned chamber, it is theoretically possible to have a cartridge that is .015" too long for the rifle, even though both are within spec.

However, most 7.62x51 ammunition is made to .308 case dimensions, so this might be an outside possibility, not a slam dunk.

This is Turkish made NATO ammunition, the same stuff used by the Turkish army in their G3s. It is milspec NATO ammo, not rebranded .308 Winchester or anything like that. It also has a sealed primer, and at half the cost of American made 7.62x51mm, a tremendous bargain.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the stuff to really check the dimensions of it. The general consensus is people are happy with the stuff but you are not alone. I saw mention of it being a little difficult to chamber in some guns with comments like this:

I just bought some today and it shoots really well, but it seems to be a SNUG fit when chambering. I'm shooting a Sig Sauer SSG 3000 and every single round is definitely snug when locking the bolt forward. I will say though that it is pretty accurate and I wouldn't mind buying more... just wish I knew why it was so damn tight. I've never run into that with any other type of ammo, and trust me, I've tried almost every time of .308, 7.62x51, that I can find. For the money though, I normally get the Norma USA TAC-308 box of 50 for $51.00 at Cabela's. Love it

They just changed the packaging; both are Turkish MKE brand NATO spec M80 ball ammo.

Don't know about Ishies, but the stuff runs great in my .308 AR, my FAL and my CETME. Clean, as accurate as US made ball ammo, and decent boxer primed brass for reloading.

I miss being able to buy the 5.56 ammo at wally for $0.33/rd, and it doesn't look like they're stocking the 9x19 anymore, either, which was good stuff, albeit a bit warm for pocket guns.

I measured a box of my ZQI Walmart M80 ball ammo and it headspaces at 1.624 which is a solid .008" from my M1A's headspace of 1.632". I have been shooting the crap out of this stuff, primarily as plinking ammo. My M1A doesn't care for it at all (groups about 4" at 100 yards) but the brass is really consistent for case capacity and my M1A doesn't destroy it nearly as quickly as it does lesser brass (Federal, Hornady, Winchester all seem to die quickly).

Whiskey11,

Your 4"/100 yard group is well within the design parameters for the M14/M1A platform. The acceptance specification for the M14 called for 5.5 MOA, but wasn't always met and some rifles needed to have this requirement waived.

Sistema1927 - It's an M1A Loaded in a Troy MCS stock. It takes 175gr SMK's and puts them into ~1 MOA 10 round groups all day long. M80 ball, yeah not so much. Not sure if it is the velocity difference (getting SD's of like 35 from ZQI, 8 with handloads) or the 147gr pill not liking the 1:11 twist match barrel on the rifle.

May be the twist. My .308 AR, a 1:10 18" stainless PSA upper with the MI SSK15 HG, hovers around 2 MOA @ 100 with ZQI. It's MOA with 155 gr. A-max, though I haven't had a chance to tweak the load yet, or try my batches of 175 gr. SMKs. Also noteworthy is that for all the awesomeness the ATN X-Sight possesses, it's not a high precision daytime optic with the fat crosshairs and digital resolution.
