Im gonna call about getting it checked still. I think it might be a burr or some chamber problem, since it fired the federal m80 alright after i cleaned it up. Thanks for the concern.

Call around to find a gun smith who will check the headspace for cheap. You can even purchase the gauge in question for a reasonable price:

http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...auges/forster-headspace-gauges-prod19183.aspx

Get the 100-010-715WB 7.62 No Go Gauge, Not for .308 Win Chamber gauge Mfr Part: HG30816400SP (scroll the way down on the left).

Very simple process, drop the gauge into the chamber, try to close and lock the bolt. If it will close and lock your head space is too large, problem identified. DO NOT SHOOT THE RIFLE if this is the case. If the rifle does not close and lock then there are some other possible issues.

No Go is for setting up a new rifle. The FIELD gauge is the one to test if it is "safe". Quotes because a lot of military arms were over Field new. You see this in 6.5x55 Swedes commonly.

Tight extraction can be a pressure sign but a long chamber will generally run with less pressure (completely different danger of case head separation). Most likely he has a corroded or rough chamber.

His extraction problems are almost impossible to be caused by a long chamber. Why are we steering him this way? A long chamber is a concern in general for a used gun but it does not match his symptom.

If there is a danger it is over pressure from a tight chamber, severe fouling, or something else. Most likely it is just a rough, corroded, or dirty chamber.

To the OP, have you inspected the bore with a light? Can you post pictures of your fired cartridges (detail on case head and primer)?

I feel for your frustration. I had gotten an fr8 in 7.62 which I had to return, although it had different symptoms. Many people are suggesting the headspace because that is one of the first culprits when a milsurp doesn't work right. To correct the headspace issue in my fr8 I think I was looking at $300 or so, or almost what I already spent for the rifle.

My Ishapore however has been fine, I had the opportunity to test fire it before I bought it. A picture of some fired brass would go a long way towards diagnosing the problem. Also a strong light to look in the chamber (where the round sits in the barrel) should show it to be smooth and shiny. The symptoms you describe are similar to the Mosin nagant "sticky bolt" syndrome. If you google that you should be able to find steps on how to clean the gun/chamber correctly (which others have suggested).

I hope you can get it figured out. A quick check by a gunsmith should be cheap and easy and might save you a lot of hassle with a return and losing out on a cool gun. I love my ishapore and once you get it working it is super fast and mild to shoot. The zq1 ammo is fine to use and is cheap at Walmart. Ammo and stripper clips (the m14 kind) in general will be cheaper and easier to find now and in the future than any other surplus bolt action which is why I got mine.

Another bit of advice, if the magazine feeds reliably now, don't mess with it too much. They can be finicky and it is best to load it from the top like they did back in the day. With just a little practice you can reload 10 rounds from a stripper clip faster than fumbling with the magazine.

If the chamber is over sized you will see a ring at the base of the fired case. If the head space is too long the shoulder will probably be expanded. Post some pictures. It's all speculation at this point. Compare a new case to a fired case.

Get some Q-Tips and run them around in the chamber. If there are any burrs they will catch the cotton. If there are burrs in there, get a bigger bore brush, (one that's fits pretty tight in the chamber. Wrap a cotton patch around the brush and put a small dab of FINE valve grinding compound on the patch. then put the rod on a drill motor and rotate it a bit in the chamber. Try the Q-tip again. If no burrs make sure to really clean the chamber and barrel.
