Zumbo is being used against us in the Senate

Carl Levin has been a long-time anti-gunner, so the people of Michigan are aware (or should be) of his stance. If it was not this incident, I am sure he would have brought up some other incident and I can guarantee he'll find something else in the future to make his point. Unless the Senate has term limits or Carl resigns, the voters will keep sending him back.

You guys (and gals) got it all wrong. It doesn't matter how many times you write, call, fax, or e-mail this buffoon, you still get the same canned reply. The letter someone posted they recently got, I received two years ago. :banghead:

It time for Michiganians to "Zumbo" Levin, when next he's up for election.

Oh, add STABenow to that list, as well as KILLdee, Conyers, etc...ad nauseum. :barf:

1) If you're writing Levin in a thing directly relating to a specific bill, you're gonna get blown off. His people have decided that the vote he needs are more in favor than opposed, so he has written you off.

2) If you're writing other congresscritters, you can use Levin as a bad example. That'll get back to him, and he may think about what he does in the future.

About the only way to reach a congresscritter who has gun control as part of his or her platform is to make them say to theirselves "Hey, if I do this, it could be overall bad for the party." If you have their peers dumping on them, that's even better.

"Uh, ahem... Honorable Mr. Levin? If you keep doing this, it's going to cost us elections. We cannot afford that."

Here in Michigan we have 2 anti-gun congress critters. Both lie openly, but Debbie Stabbenow is the worse of the 2. She tries to tell you what you want to hear. I emailed her an anti-gun email, and then a pro-gun email. I didn't even bother using 2 different addresses, and she sent me both a pro gun and an anti gun response. I forwarded them both and asked which was true, then got some nonsense rambling out of her about how she grew up in a family of hunters.

At least with Carl Levin he doesn't try and BS you. Well, he does in that he sent literature to my friends house claiming that you could legally get a full auto Mac 10 for 800 dollars, and that was before Mi even became a full auto state. He lies in that regard, and he sure lied in that speech, but he at least won't tell you he'll keep your opinions in mind when he votes like that other sack of crap thats supposed to represent me.

I've wrote my local congressperson pointing out that he beat the Democrat because of many folks disgust with the competency of the Administration.

Thus, folks who normally would vote GOP went for him. However, restarting the march for gun control would make a significant portion of this group, who are disgusted with the current administration, hold their noses and go back to the GOP.

That seems more effective to me than just hoping that the GOP will win, given the handicap of the current Administration. I want all parties to avoid gun control, rather than basing my hopes on only one party.

Right.

When you e-mail 'em, keep it simple. Your e-mails are likely being scanned by some minion intern (when they are not being exploited...). More than a few sentences gets ignored.

If you write more than a page, no matter how literate you are, how carefully crafted it is, no matter how much time you put into it, it gets pitched into the crackpot file.

I betcha Zumbo's gonna be on the phone to the guy's office. Not that it matters. Jim's highly irritated at this crap. It is NOT a good idea to hack off a skilled writer. That is the sorta thing that comes back to bite one harder...

Has Zumbo used his talents as a writer to tell the Maryland legislature (where his blog was introduced during the state AWB hearings) that he was wrong?

If not, why should we believe he will now take any action against Levin, when he hasn't done anything but preach to the choir?

If Zumbo is going to be the anti's worst nightmare, when will their nightmare begin and ours end?

What action would you expect an outdoor writer to take against a Senator who is not from his state when said outdoor writer has had his livelihood ripped away from him by people such as on this forum? I think the answer is obvious.

Well, this writer whose livelihood was ripped away has since apologized profusely and sworn up and down that anyone who used his blog and his misguided and uneducated words against the 2nd Amendment would rue the day, not realizing what kind of nightmare they were bringing on themselves.

This is, paraphrased but accurate in spirit, Zumbo's own statement, made in his third apology. So, don't you think he should back them up? Don't you further think that regardless of where Zumbo resides, he might want to at least call the office of the person quoting him? Perhaps, as he's an outdoor writer, he might turn to writing Levin via a blog, an e-mail, or a letter? I assure you that any such letter would be widely disseminated, just as his numerous apologies were.

You are correct, though. The answer is obvious. When it comes to regaining the career that you inaccurately state was ripped from him (Remington at least ditched him because he referred to items they plan on making as terrorist weapons), Zumbo is quick to take action. When it comes to actually remedying the damage he did, he's a wee bit . . . slower off the mark.

Maybe he could testify in the Senate on the gun issue. Would you really want him to do that? You see, most here don't trust him.

At this point, if he needs the money, he should go where the money is. That is the hard reality of life. Survival.

Yes, I know that Remington (and others) pulled the plug. But only because of the internet reaction.... people threatening not to buy their products etc..... like where are you planning on buying them instead? Winchester?

Zumbo could douse himself with gasoline and light it and most would say it was not enough. I'm sorry for having a bad taste in my mouth about this whole issue, a good man was ruined. I'm not going to "talk" about this issue anymore. You all can have at it.

As mentioned, the NRA had nothing to do with it.

No... I man faced consequences of poorly thought-out statements. I won't get into this again, but his statements were not mild.

Whenever ANYONE does anything, they must understand that there may be consequences to those actions.

Has it ever occured to you that his appology may have ONLY come from trying to save his income stream? If so, that makes HIM dishonest. So, let's not get into the whole "good man" thing.

When people wonder if he will do or say something, they are only seeing IF HE WILL DO AS HE SAID. If he doesn't address this, doesn't that make a statement regarding his original sincerity?

Perhaps more of these people who are skeptical would be won over if they saw him putting actions behind the statements he made. Hell, he could even save his career.

People are hoping to see evidence of his sincerity. This is an opportunity for him. This would go a lot further than shooting a pink AR with Ted Nugent.

And the above is the ultimate point of my post. What will Zumbo do now? He's got an opportunity to 1) show that he is the nightmare to the antis he claimed he would be and prove his supporters correct or 2) do nothing, prove his detractors wrong, and show his supporters that he is absolutely unworthy of their loyalty and reduce them to the level of simply saying "the man can't do anything now because no one will trust what he says."

I'm sure someone on this board know's Jim Zumbo or at least has his contact info, so I think he should be called or emailed and told of the situation in case he didn't hear of it yet, and also asked what he intends to do about it.

It is just like the Socialist Left to snag onto a lone voice of opinion, rather than fact, that fits with their view of the world, while ignoring masses of legitimate evidence that counters their feel-good/do nothing lawmaking. They would just as quickly ignore any of Mr. Zumbo's recantments if it would ruin their festival.
