as for hammer bite on a 1911. i just put a band aid on top of hand were hammer would hit ,no more drawed blod or sore place ,band aids are cheap , pull off when done and you dont have to change the pistol hammer in anyway

i bought my first .40 cal last summer ,it a S@W M-2.0 4" compact ,i shoot 9 MM ,.357 .Mag and .45 ,so .40 dont kick to me, diffintly a little more that 9-MM, 165 gr was a little snappier ,but 180 grain .40 cal ammo not kick much differant than a 9-MM to me, way less than my .45

PACHMEYER DIAMOND PRO, work best for me on myS@W 627 ,it recoils in my hand softer than both of those you mention , i think they are a little more wider in the middle of grip spreading recoil wider in hand. and deffently softer ,further down back of grip...
its just a round number to use ,to start with .Then they will lower it more like New York state making only 7 rounds legal ,I think the courts made them put that on the back burner ,but iam sure it will come back
yes there is a drop in part ,i bought i think from Wolff springs a new hammer spring for it .It dropped the trigger pull from 5.5 pounds down to 3 pounds, easy to change
