Brands that you steer clear of?

Anything suitable? Looks to me like there is nothing that hasn't left bad memories somewhere. This is like the 9 mm versus .40 or .45 crap that goes on all the time without resolution. Maybe the opinions should be restricted to those who owned the lemons instead of going by what people have...

    XD or CZ?

CZ vs XD I have a CZ 9 mm and it is a very accurate pistol, shoots reliably, feeds everything, no problems in 3 years of ownership. I would still look into the XD especially if it feels right. The pistol is getting to have a very large following. Shoot both if you can and decide the...

    Need an Education on Snubbies

.38 or .380 Getting back to the original post, I don't find enough difference in .38 from .380 to make a change. I would go to .357 mag as a step up for more power (and a sturdier frame if you are convinced .38 spl is your round.) The Colt Agent you mentioned is not a good shooter to me. Go...

    9mm vs. .45 sidearms

Handgun choice No handgun ever won a war. It doesn't matter whether you are carrying a .45 or 9 mm, you are outgunned by everybody else with a long gun. For that matter, I think you are outgunned with a .223 against everyone else as well. All being said, I think both 9 mm and .45 have had...

    CZ75B vs. Taurus 92

CZ vs Taurus 92 Should be more like Tangfolio / EAA Witness versus Taurus 92. CZ would be versus Beretta 92. Seriously, all 4 of these guns are fine. I would try to shoot the Taurus and CZ and compare how they feel.

Trust the .380 with your life?

100 grains or more I like at least a 100 gr bullet for self defense. That means in the .380 / 38 spl class, the .38 gets the nod even though it is a much slower round than the .380. A small snubby .357 with JHP's is still the best small decent man stopper but is not great for a piece to...

What's the cheapest, yet GOOD 9mm handgun around?

CZ not over rated The CZ is a fine weapon, not over rated. Worth more than it costs even with the newest price jacks. Still, I say go for a higher quality used gun over any really cheap new one. Always, buy from someone you know who can give you a history with a used gun. I got burned...

My 1911's are now Safe Queens.

XD in .45 Wasn't Springfield going to put the XD out in .45ACP? This would make a pretty good gun if you could get the 5" barrel. With the grip safety of the XD and the SA trigger you would have.....Hey something almost like a 1911 ! :D No kidding, I would like to have one of these...

    XD9 rails are plastic?

POLYMER Rails I might have brought this up. When the HS2000/XD first came out, some of the gun writers "suggested" the pistol had a tendency to throw the first round fired and thought it may have something to do with the rear rails not being made of metal. Anyone else heard of this? Any...

    Springfield XD-9 for duty use...

XD I haven't shot this gun but would like to. I think............ If SA had kept the price down at the HS2000 level, it could have knocked Glock from the market. As is, Glock is too firmly entrenched now with a comparable price. If the XD and Glock had come out at the same time, I...

6 round mag limit at range?

MP5 baby My range requires hearing and eye protection on before you enter. There is a small "mud room" you go through before you enter the range so noise won't enter the shop area. Once inside you shoot it as fast or as many as you like at a time. If you are acting in an unsafe manner they come...

    Hollyweird cop handguns??

Red Heat correction The gun on the cover of the Red Heat DVD is some kind of fictional Russian super gun which looks like a modified Beretta-Desert Eagle hybrid. The most significant gun fight in the movie happens in the hooker hotel with Arnold using a 44 mag S&W which Belushi gave to him...

    Hollyweird cop handguns??

Another .44 mag How about the Magnum Arnold used in Red Heat? I think it was a S&W Model 29 just like Harry's but he seemed to get 8 or 10 shots without reloading. This gun looked right on the Governator. At least we know Clint used his true capacity as an incentive to get felons to...

Advice on pistol for my wife....

Kahr or Glock When I went through this with my wife, the only two pistols she picked up and liked were a Kahr K9 and Glock 26. I said OK, we walked out and I bought her a Kel-Tec P-11 instead. She rejected the Kel-Tec immediately when I gave it to her and it's now in my glove compartment...

    Guns in Movies Question

Harry If you remember Magnum Force, the 2nd Dirty Harry, and the shooting range scene with the 4 bad cops, Clint tells them he shoots a 44 special load in his heavy Model 29 Smith and gets less recoil than their .357's. I've shot this combination and he's right, it is a very light recoiling...

    If you won a Glock...

G-22 Stick with the .40 fullsize. Then go to Lone Wolf.com and get a .357 Sig barrel and a 9 mm conversion barrel (and a 9 mm mag) so you can shoot three different calibers with your one gun. The 22 (or 17, 31) is the best ergonomic Glock but that's me. Or hold out for the 18 and go full...

Clint Eastwood's revolver in "Blood Work"...

Penn and Robbins = has beens I think Clint was being kind to give these losers some work. Maybe he treated them badly... early camera calls and repeated endless takes. I doubt it, Clint is not that kind of guy. Leaving politics out of it, these guys need a hit. Penn and Robbins girl friend...

    9mm v. 45 ACP

Oh no, not again This is the dumbest debate on a gun forum rearing its ugly head again. Please no more. Moderator lock this up now. BigG, please maintain proper respect for the old .45 in 1911. Everyone please hold off those many ballistics comparisons always devolving into shot placement...

    Springfield Armory "MILSPEC" M1911A1

Mil-spec This one isn't called Mil-spec for nothing. That's what it is and the SA Mil-spec is a great gun for customization. You can always buy the gun with mods but this is a great way to learn the 1911 and build a custom gun to really be proud of. Great starter gun, highly reccomended.

    What Caliber for double duty?

I can't believe what I'm reading here Fellows, if you are afraid of being eaten by something like a grizzly or a pack of coyotes, you need a lot more at the party than any handgun. I'd sling at least a .270 before I went out. On my belt I would go with a big magnum revolver instead of any...
