$400 Gun

400? I'd probably be looking at a used GLOCK 26, or some a couple Makarovs, Tokarevs, or other surplus gun.

Every now and then, Big 5 has a coachgun on sale for 399, so I might go with that.

I probably wouldn't look for a new gun at that price, since there are so many good used ones out there. ANY of the following can be found for under $400 in excellent condition:

Handguns
Ruger GP100 or SP101 in .357
Glock 19 or 23
Browning Buckmark .22
RIA 1911

Long Guns
Remington 700 BDL (pick your caliber)
Remington 760 .30-06
Marlin 336 (.30-30) or 1894 (.357 or .44 mag)
Remington 870

These are just representative. All can be found for $400 or under.

My approach is always based on whether I know what I want and am looking for the best price on it, in which case I save my $$ until I can afford it, regardless of price, or I have a fixed budget and am just looking around for a good deal. In the latter case, I'm much more opportunistic and look for "good deals" in a variety of categories. And in the latter case I always buy second hand.

A very open ended question. Would not know where to begin as it`s to vague. Maybe , re-fine your question and get more specific answers.
Or,you just want to know(opinion) what folks would get for $400.
Nothing wrong with that. For me, I`ll save the $400 and add some to it. :)

If that's all I had to spend to supply myself with firearms I'd go with a used 12ga mossberg pump 12 ga and a Marlin model 60 22.

If you are looking to add to a collection, I'd get in line for a Keltec PMR30.

Sig P250 in .45 with additional Sig mag, Sig holster and Sig dbl mag holder for $419 shipped at Northern Firearms via Gunbroker. FYI; don't even take the Sig holster out of the packaging. Sell it and buy a Blackhawk holster.

I just recently paid $400 (minus taxes) for a Kahr CW9 and I've seen Ruger LCR's (next choice) at the gunshows for $400 even. Every now and then I'll run across a used S&W Highway Patrolman for a little over $300 at the gunshow. $400 would get a decent holster, the gun and maybe a speedloader if I was lucky.

Rock Island Armory 1911
American Classic 1911
Used S&W model 10 revolver + lot's of Ammo
Used Ruger GP 100
Used Glock 26 (I got my G19 for $400)
Finnish Mosin Nagant plus a case of ammo

If you're asking for advice:

Older S&W .38 - model 10 or similar - ~$300 + some ammo.

Or...

Used Glock of whatever caliber ... should be able to find something for around $400.

Or...

A Mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun.

If you're asking what I would get...

Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30 and a crate of ammo, or a CZ-82 w/a crate of ammo.
