Sorry for all the posts but I can't wait to load this.

Any pet loads out there. I figure I'll use 240 gr coated or lead swc and xtp's. I only list powders below I have.

I see a couple powders on hodgdon loads as 5744 and titegroup which intrigue me.

More likely though I'll use unique, 2400 and h110. Have be86 too so that is an option if any thoughts.

Thx for time

Unique,2400,H110 all good powders for what you want to do I don’t have any pet loads but I think you will find a good one with those components

reading tightly! I have everything but the gun.. Can’t decide between a Ruger SRH or a New S&W m29, or a m69, or a kick around Tracker with ports…

7.5gr Unique in magnum cases is a pleasant load to shoot. Has a little oomph! 240gr HiTek LSWC. Standard primer.

Hogdon lists 23gr of H110/W296 as a start magnum load with the same bullet. 24gr is the max load. Magnum primer for H110-W296.

The 23gr load is plenty for me. Note the huge pressure jump from 23gr to 24 gr!

Elmer Keith's classic load was 22.0 grs 2400 with his 245-250 grain Lyman 429421 bullet. The bullet was his design. This is a great full power load. For a mid range load, which pushed a 240 lead bullet just at 1000 fps, I used 8.5 grains Unique. Unique is very flexible in the 44 Magnum case and produces outstanding accuracy at almost magnum velocities.

As to choice of pistol, for single actions, it was always Ruger.

for double action revolvers, it was always S&W

Thx all, exactly where I was leaning. Amazing most are unique but not a surprise. The 3 I figured on using are confirmed good powders for 44.

For fun low recoil plinking, coated 240 SWC's or RNFPs with a mid range TiteGroup charge are a pure joy to shoot in the 44 Mag. H110, AA9, or SW Heavy Pistol all make for great "wrist breakers". H110 is "go big or go home", don't reduce under your minimum charge in the load data you're using, and there is usually only a couple of grains difference between minimum and max. AA9/Heavy Pistol has a lot more wiggle room. With soft shooting plinking loads using TiteGroup, you want to stay in the low-middle charge range....much over the mid charges......you just start getting more flash and recoil without much more velocity gain.

Darn, I kinda wrote titegroup off. A few soft shooting plinking loads are always nice to have on hand so I may look at loading a few titegroup rounds up.

I get super tight groups with 10.6 gr. of Longshot with WLPs under a 240 SWC bevel base commercially cast and coated bullet at 1.61" OAL for about 1100 fps depending on barrel length.
