642 Club Part Three

Thanks flightsimmer. I was unaware of this until now, but I have snap caps so I will use them. This 442 is very accurate and comfortable to shoot if I do my part. It's a replacement for an old one I sold to a friend, but it turned out to be better, so ya know, sometimes the wheel comes back around.

I got my Model 642-1 in 2019, it's a great pocket pistol and has become my around the house carry gun. I have a good number of rounds through it, and it's holding up well (except for the flaky clear coat finish, but that's OK).

The only thing I didn't like was how sloppy the barrel crown was on mine right out of the box. It was not concentric with the bore, which is a bad recipe for bullet stability and accuracy. I redid the crown myself to perfect this little gun, picture attached.

Guess I'm an accidental member of the club. I started out with a brushed nickeled 442 but after several years of carry and shooting the frame cracked. Sent it to S&W for repair and they sent back a 642 with an apology letter because to was unrepairable and they no longer had the 442 in that finish. So now it spends a great deal of time in the pocket.
Wait there’s a 642 club on THR? Count me in!

A few weeks ago I was shooting at my local Range. Checking guns for sale I saw a 642 for a little over $700. I was a little surprised at that price.

I bought my first revolver last year and it is a 642. I paid $490 for it in May 2021. I found my finger was to far into the trigger, but switching to a Hogue Tamer grip that extends for a third finger and adds a bit of rubber behind the backstrap made for a perfect fit to my hand and it is much more accurate with that new grip. I do have the goofy lock but am told just leave it alone.

My 642 was my first revolver too. I got it for $499 also around May 2021. It has the Hogue Tamer grip. It makes a big difference in grip and recoil. Now that I've trained up on it, I'm considering going back to a smaller or the original grip for concealed carry reasons. I love my 642.

I carried it in a pocket holster yesterday on a hike.

i got mine 7-8 years ago used for $250. it came with a distressed finish that has zero effect on the revolver’s excellent performance. i am no recoil junkie so it’s loaded exclusively with softer wadcutter ammo. if im going for a wander outdoors i bring a few shotshells too. i love it.

I had mine loaded with wadcutters until I found the critical defense line.

Check out the 110 grain standard pressure load. Shoots to point of sites in mine, no recoil to speak of. Take a look at some of the lucky gunner tests on the round.

I've been happy with it and is been reasonably available. Now I only load with hardcast for deeper woods hikes.
