I'd say it should be fine. I gues an AK in 7.62X39 kicks a little more than .223 from a mini 14 or AR, but it's a somewhat different recoil. From the AK it's more of a push into your shoulder than a quick snap. Recoil from an AK isn't even in the same ballpark as recoil from a .308 or .270 bolt gun.
Yes, absolutely she should have fun with anything SKS/AK. Both are heavy relative to the power of the round anyhow - and the zillions of undernourished, small statured kids around the world wielding both weapon types do just fine with them.
the 7.62x39 is harder to recover from the first shot vs the 5.56 under rapid fire. nothing too bad but the ak is still my favorite gun because it's like a 99% reliably. maybe not that high but high.
The 7.62x39 is a pretty soft recoiling gun IMO. I let new shooters shoot mine. It has more felt recoil than the .223 but the .223 in an otherwise similar rifle has virtual no recoil. I am not a recoil junky but I do not find even the .308 in a 16" AK to be the least bit objectionable.
The real difference as others have said is muzzle rise. Follow up shots are definately quicker in the .223. The .308 w/ the 16 barrel jumps a bit and puts a a decent muzzle blast. Unless the shooter is extremely recoil sensitive a x39 shouldn't be much of an issue.
