Wow, I can't believe this at $95!!! (Natchez is having tax refund optics clearance sale) - https://www.natchezss.com/viridian-serac-rifle-scope-6-24x50-30mm-sfp-etched-vfd-2-black

Natchez is selling Viridian Serac 6-24x50 (30mm tube), 11 coatings lens, side focus parallax (25-800 yards then infinity), SFP, locking external 1/8 MOA turrets, etched VFD-2 reticle and flip covers. While Natchez ad shows 7 year warranty but Viridian website shows "Iron Clad" lifetime warranty - https://viridianoptics.com/serac-landing-page

I would say you are essentially getting Vortex Crossfire II comparable scope in lens clarity and brightness (Crossfire II has slight brightness edge in dark shadows for my post cataract 100% light transmission Vivity IOL implant eyes but really no difference with any amount of sunlight) with extra features and hefty 24.7 oz (It's built like a tank).

Viridian Serac replaced Burris FF E1 6.5-20x50 (1" tube) on my accurized 10/22 with KSA bull barrel/Magpul MOE X-22 stock and while I had planned on replacing with Vortex Crossfire II, after getting EGW 20 MOA scope rail which brought Serac crosshair to center of turret adjustment and since it did so well during 6000 round break-in/accurizing testing with 10/22, I think I am going to keep the scope as I like the side focus for 50-100 yard switching of target range and prefer the external turrets over Crossfire II's internal turrets. At $95, it is likely the most under rated brand name 30mm tube 6-24x50 scope with lifetime warranty.

I just bought two with $20 shipping so $105 each before tax. (I paid $150 for mine and last price was $169)

They are made in China but carry Viridian's "Iron Clad" lifetime warranty.

While Viridian manufacturers most of their weapons light and laser mounts in the USA (Minneapolis, Minnesota), Viridian is OEM supplier for Ruger 10/22 scope (EON 3-9x40 scope) along with Ruger weapons laser/lights and scopes are likely rebranded Chinese (In the previous thread, we tried to figure out which brand/model had locking turrets with 1/8 MOA but was inconclusive) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...g-range-reticle-for-150.900740/#post-12191635

Venta/Serac was their mid and top of the line flagship scope but were closed out and replaced with Lyxa, Mylex, Antero, Xactus SFP/FFP scopes priced more typical at $350-$1300 - https://viridianweapontech.com/products/optics/tactical

At $95, this is likely the last time we will see Serac level 6-24x50 30mm tube scope with these features, likely for the rest of my lifetime.

Since they carry "Iron Clad" lifetime warranty, if replacement is needed for Serac (I believe MSRP was $599?), I guess they may replace with Mylex 4-24x50 FFP 30mm tube scope listed at $800 and that would be fine by me :) - https://viridianweapontech.com/prod...-4-24x50mm-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-ffp-981-0043

Viridian scope rings 30mm High/Medium $25 (1" High/Med/Low $19) - https://viridianoptics.com/products/rings-and-mounts.html

Amazon Prime: Viridian 30mm medium rings $13 (This is what I used for the Serac with Loctite and Tekton 1/4" torque wrench) - https://www.amazon.com/Viridian-Scope-Rings-Pair-Medium/dp/B0855J36QH/ref=sr_1_4

Viridian Cantilever 30mm scope mount for $39 and 10% off with WHLS discount code (Expires 4/8) - https://www.opticsplanet.com/viridi...scope-mount.html?_iv_code=99-MT-VRFD-982-0037

If I needed another scope and considering $95.00 doesn't buy much of anything anymore, I could definitely look at one of these. In the past I always bought high end stuff, but the world is changing and there are some decent products coming from PRC.

*sigh*. I’ll let y’all know how it is.

I couldn’t pass that up. I’m beginning to think I need to find an Optics Anomymous meeting.

I just bought two

After buying the Serac scope and later when I found out Viridian was discontinuing the Serac line, I was a bit disappointed because I liked the scope with clarity all the way to 24x power and various features not available for $150 range scope I paid. Only thing I could complain about was slight drifting when I did the "box test" with the turrets (I will repeat the box test with two new Seracs).

But then I found out Eon/Venta/Serac non-illuminated SFP lines were replaced with Lyxa/Mylex/Antero/Xactus illuminated SFP/FFP lines so I felt much better about "Iron Clad" lifetime warranty as if Serac broke, replacement under warranty would be Serac or from new line (That's what I am thinking) and at $95 close-out price, I think it's a no-brainer.

Viridian Serac 6-24x50 has 1/8 MOA turrets and elevation turret is marked 0-14 with 4 marking lines between numbers (So 0-2 with 8 lines = 1 MOA and adjustment per rotation is also 6 MOA). Elevation turret turns max of 7 turns so 6x7=42 so my guess is Viridian Serac has 40 MOA elevation adjustment. The windage turret turns just over 4 turns so 6x4=24 so my guess is 25 MOA windage adjustment - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...e-reticle-for-150.900740/page-2#post-12281812

With 1/8 MOA turrets (Like Athlon 10-40x56), 24 clicks should move POI 3 inches (Squares are approximately 1") - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12194385
  • Top left with green circle POA was initial group after sighter test shot
  • Top right was after 20 clicks to the right
  • Bottom right was after 24 clickts to the bottom
  • Bottom left was after 20 clicks to the left

My Rings from Amazon came today. The scope is due in Weds.
To ease some of your "buyer's remorse", let me paint a more realistic picture of what level of scope you are getting:
  • Manual and lifetime warranty for Serac 6-24x50 model - https://viridianoptics.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/pearl_theme/serac_manual.pdf
  • Manual for Serac 2-10x40/2-16x50 models - https://viridianweapontech.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/pdf/Serac_Owners_Manual.pdf
  • Torque specs - Recommend 15-18 inch pound for 6-24x50 model (12-15 inch pound for Serac 2-10x40/2-16x50 models)
  • Clear field of view to edge of lens all the way to 24x power
  • Brightness of field of view under dark shadows without sun slightly less than that of Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50 but not by much
  • Turrets are "comparable" to Strike Eagle 4-24x50 but Serac has more positive "click"
  • 1/8 MOA turrets with 40 MOA vertical adjustment (Compared to 1/4 MOA and 40 MOA for Crossfire II and 1/4 MOA and 80 MOA vertical adjustment for Strike Eagle)
  • Parallax adjustment at 50 and 100 yards spot on to where you could use it to range distance
  • Eye relief is not specified but comparable to 3.5" of Strike Eagle (4.0" for Crossfire II)
  • If conducting turret tracking box test, I recommend doing so without locking the turrets to eliminate one more variable
  • If shooting 22LR, especially SV, bullet drop may max out vertical turret adjustment at 50-100 yards to require 20 MOA rail. EGW 20 MOA rail for 10/22 centered the crosshair back in the middle of turret adjustment
  • Length 16.0" (Compare to 14.5" for Cross Fire II and 14.9" for Strike Eagle)
  • Weight 24.7 oz (Compare to 23.6 oz for Crossfire II and 25.6 oz for Strike Eagle)

May I ask what rings you got? I now have a scope with a 30mm tube, but no 30mm rings.

Also, looking for any other rings suggestions. If it helps, this scope will be going on The Rat.
