A Question About Plated Bullets

I really appreciate all this input. I may just buy a taper resizing die for these. In the last bullet shortage, I found plated bullets to be available while all the lead and jacketed bullets were long gone. If it's that way in this shortage, I will certainly use them. Again, thanks, everybody.

I loaded up about 250 Berry's in .40 Cal under 7.8 grains AAC7 with a taper crimp. When shot across the Chrono it showed a high of about 1200 fps (average was about 1100) but the plating started to separate downrange and made a halo of fine holes around the POI.
Maybe I had a bad batch...but that was it for plated as far as I was concerned.

Both Berrys and Xtreme say their bullets are fine as long as you don't go over 1200 fps. It sounds like you were close to max.

I've long used plated bullets. I could never consistently use cast without sooner or later suffering severe leading. Different manufacturers just didn't seem to use the same components.

For 9mm and 45 ACP I use a moderate taper crimp. For 357 (38 special velocities) and 44 (also 44 special velocities) I use a very mild roll crimp. Berrys says their bullets are fine as long as the copper plate isn't broken.
