ok, so new years day, we're at the gun club, we're the only ones on the ranges, and the only other person there was the club president who was plowing out the club roads (but was not plowing at the time, he was in the club house doing something)

but anywho, so we get to the rifle range, I unload my CETME and goto work just letting loose as fast as I can... and we all start hooting and hollering, becaue its new years, and well, we were just happy to be there...

keep in mind, there is NO one else on the firing range,, ANY of the firing ranges...

so the club president comes up in his truck, and says, "What's all the hollering about" and we just told him, eh, we're just having a good time and he replies, "oh, cause one of the neighbors just called, they thought someone was shot" and we were like oh really, and he goes, "no, I'm just kidding"

anyways, does this seem like a REALLY stupid thing for someone to say, especially the club president? I don't think it was really funny at all, and I KNOW the neighbors were not bothered because the only neighbor in earshot of the club is my aunt, who actually looks forward to the ridiculously loud rapid firing as a sign of my impending arrival.

thoughts anyone?

oh, and I wasnt bump firing, just ripping loose shooting in a sighted position at a IDPA silhouette at 50 yards.

well, hooting and hollering while letting loose can be as distastefull as someone was shot jokes. i guess you deserve each other.

like I said, range was empty, ALL ranges were empty, I wouldnt hoot and holler or blast off the CETME like that with other people around.

If a person has tatoo on their forehead and dances around naked, people are probably going to stop and look......I'd say you drew attention to yourselves, and got it.

I'm not saying we did'nt give him a reason to investigate, it's jsut the 'somebody got shot comment' comment that has me miffed.

oh, and the gun club is gated, you cant get in without a magnetic access card.

I would say act the same at the gun range if anybody else is there or not , you never know who is watching . maybe its guys who get a laugh or some new kid who is watching somebody act silly.
You know when you make alot of noise you are going to draw attention.

Maybe the pres. was trying to tactfully tell you to knock the crap off, without saying so directly. It may have been something to get you thinking that maybe a neighbor COULD call in something like that, and cause a hassle for the whole range.

We all know that it only takes one idiot to ruin things for everyone, so while you weren't REALLY doing anything wrong, you were acting kinda idiotic.

echo...

I'd like to echo what Tuna said. I think the Pres was doing a good job of telling you to quite making a fool of yourself. The only reason you got "miffed" was that you knew he was right.

also, the Pres wasn't plowing the dirt (this is January!), I'm thinking he was probably clearing snow. Let me guess, you're from the south:D ?

I have the answer!

Why don't you go back and ASK him why he said this, and straighten it out yourself. That would be the best way I can think of to iron out any hard feelings, and keeping yourself from gaining some weirdo reputation.

The club's president has a dry wit, and was telling you that you were acting foolishly.

We had some fool "hootin' and hollerin', actually kids with him were doing so. We (the others on the range) thought that someone HAD been shot. We collectively told him to knock that crap off, as it was unnerving the other members. Plus, no matter where you go, you need to keep your kids under control.

That was immature behavior on your part. You have no cause whatsover to get ruffled over the president. Go to a sports bar and watch some football game on a Sunday and do that, not at a gun range.

The advice about always act as if someone may watching was very good.

ok, again, the only neighbor in earshot was my aunt, who is actually a bit moffed over what he said too....

also, THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AT THE CLUB, no one to disturb, I'm getting the feeling you guys think I would have acted that way no matter what, but like I said, we were the only ones there, there was no one else to bother.

also, I dont really mind having the reputation for being a weirdo, because, well, I am a weirdo.

i think he said it because you were the only one there. i said i didnt think you were in the wrong, i think he did it for teh conversation. he was probably bored. probably not a lot of traffic on new years day and he just was sayin hi in a dry way. i wouldnt have taken it personal, just seen how his day was going or shot back a round of my own dry sarcasm:)

Gotta say I agree with what the pres did. He might have thought someone had gotten hurt himself and he said a neighbor thought someone had been shot just paraphrasing his own thoughts. The fact that he drove to the range to see what had happened shows his concern.

You've said several times in various ways, "THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE AT THE CLUB, no one to disturb". Not true, the president was there and it sounds like he was semi-worried about what had transpired at the range.

Let me hasten to add, I don't see anything wrong with blasting away, but it was probably the hollering that got the attention.

Let me guess..you're under 26 years of age.

Having a good reputation, or a reputation of good values shared by others, is something that is of value to mature people. "Not minding" about having the reputation of a weirdo is contrary to this way of thinking.

I hope you are being sarcastic.

Sounds like dry humor.

I thought it was kind of funny.

Me too.

Of course, I wouldn't think it was funny as he was saying it. But I would probably laugh about it shortly thereafter. Then again, I used to be a very "serious" personality and had real trouble laughing at myself. Still not as "loose" as I should be, but I'm getting better.

Likely the Prez was just poking fun at a bunch of adults cavorting about like kids. At least he didn't end the fun for the day because he's a stick in the mud.
