I shot this group with my now next years deer rifle. A 336 in dirty thirty w/ a Weaver 1.5-3 scope up top. This group measures 1 inch center to center. I was shooting from the bench using Winchester 150gr Powerpoints (factory ammo) and shooting with a strong crosswind. This was the first time I shot this rifle and I was zeroing the scope on this box of ammo.

I am so impressed with the trigger and accuracy of this rifle, I am now looking at a 336Y Spikehorn to use as a truck gun. I will probably put a Lymans aperture rear sight on it and use the stock front sight.

I like reloading but it sure is nice to know a gun like this can shoot like this on ten dollar a box ammo!

Have a 1894 marlin in 357 and it awesome at 100 yrds with open sights. Of course I need the 336, hopefully in the next few months. the wife went to order me a Winchester 94 Legacy in 44 for xmas, but they told her to check back in Spring because their suppliers won't have any til then.
but as to your question, levers are pretty cool....

I have six lever-action rifles in my gunsafe right now: a Savage 99 in .308, and five Marlins, two in .30-30, one in .44 Magnum, one in .357 Magnum and one in .45-70. Yes, I daresay I could be accused of liking leverguns... :D

I love 'em too, especially Marlin. I own an 1894 in .44 Mag/.44 Specials. With Specials, I could shoot myself into bankruptcy! (Oh, wait....:uhoh: )

Asking me if I like Leverguns is kind of like asking if the Pope is Catholic? :D

I have several Leverguns and love them! Simple, reliable, handle well.

Cowboy Assualt Rifles!

I'm currently shopping for a Marlin 336 in either .35 or .30/30, can't decide which as yet. Probably will go with whichever I find first or get the best deal on. I own a Win 9422 as well as Ruger leverguns in .22 and .44 magnum. All seem to shoot more precisely than I can normally hold under field conditions.

I too am about to make the plunge into the world of lever guns. I'm wanting a Marlin 336C (real walnut, not stained hardwood) in .30-30. Been squirrling away money for a couple of months now, and I'm about $40 away! Now I just don't know how I can sneak out of the house to go get it since I'm on vacation and the wife keeps tight reins on me (for a good reason, I might sneek off to a gun shop and buy a new gun  )

Oldnamvet, I wanted a 35 Remington, but the place I was ordering from couldn't find one in stock so I went with the 30-30. And since he got it for me at cost, I ain't complaining! I think they are both deer killing machines, but I give a slight nod to the 35 for just knocking them dead. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

ScottsGT, I am in Lexington. I work in Columbia. Heck, I may have seen ya around. If you want a good deal and want to deal with a good guy, go see JR at Lexington Pawn and Gun. I happen to know he has a 336C in stock right now (same as mine) and I also happen to know you can get it for about $370.00. Tell him Jason sent ya and to give you a deal. ;)

Is it me or the Marlin?

I don't know what it is with the Marlin 30-30 rifles, but I swear by them. I have a Marlin 30-30 with open iron sites (the "stag horn" kind? they make a V...not sure what that is) and I will stand by that gun till the day I die. My father has owned an SKS for 30 years, and he's learned to shoot with it extremely accuratly. My Grandfather gave me the 30-30 right before he died of cancer, so I'll cherish the gun forever. My second time shooting it, I outshot my father with an almost supernatural ease. He eventually put his gun away, and just started setting out targets for me to shoot at. Any target he set up, I shot down. I wasn't even completely sure on what I was doing, I had no idea how to aim the thing. My experience was always with scoped .308's and 30-06's. Yet, somehow I managed to put the bullet where I wanted it every time. I bet I can get groups of 2" or less at 100 yards if I've got a rest.

A guy who trains our horses was talking about a marlin one day. He said with a marlin 30-30, he knocked a deer down from 200 yards (back in the 70's). He couldn't believe it, and honestly didn't believe it. His friend, who was right there with him didn't believe it either. The bullet broke the backbone of the deer. Since then he's always had a profound respect for the gun. He told me that if he was to ever own a gun (sold all his a while back, financial problems I assume), it would be a 30-30 marlin.

I have a great respect for the gun. I've taken down a couple deer with it, and they've never gone more than 2 steps. Big nice magnums are great and all, but shotplacement is better.

Pawn shop Marlin 336A, worked on by Brockman: barrel cut to 16.5, Gen 3 sights, dehorn, new stocks from ebay.
Perfect for any occasion under 150yds.

The best way to get a good deal on a Marlin is to hit the pawn shops after deer season.

Oh you had to go and post that didn't you?! :cuss: :D

I have been drooling over cut down leverguns all weekend contemplating building a truck gun. I also just found out Marlin is making the youth model Spikehorn which is a 16.5" barrel and a shortened (12.5") LOP.

Ugh, thanks alot!

Oh and beautiful rifle! :neener:

How much do you have in it if you don't mine me asking?

I guess you have seen this link?

And here is the Yost-Bonitz "Big Lewie" I dream about.

And here is a controversial writeup on the levergun as a fighting rifle written by our very own Gabe Suarez a while back.

EVERYONE is a levergun fan. Some folks just lie and deny it. :D

Nice rifle, nice group. I'm already waiting for your hunting story...

The rifle was $25, fired 6 times, shut in truck door once.
Shorten Barrel, dehorn loading port, reblue ~$225
Sights (added recently, Williams WGRS was driving me up the wall) $175
New stocks, wanted checkered vice smooth stocks $35
WWG trigger $85

The best thing was getting the loading port dehorned, makes a huge difference when shooting for prolonged periods. Had to get the barrel shortened due to the last 2" being bent, might as well go all the way. The sights are nice, but not any better than the Ashleys. The front sight has an 1/8" post, pretty thick, my group size past 100yds has increased, but it's much faster to shoot and pick up targets inside of 100yds. Fair trade IMO.

Leverguns are not regulated weapon in MD, unlike the AR, I can keep the Marlin in the trunk when out and about.

The two best ways to improve a Marlins accuracy are the WWG happy trigger and having a target crown cut.

Levers are especially good for those of us who shoot left handed. Have mod 94 Win( pre 64) ,and a later mod 94. Also a Marlin 44 mag. Love 'em all.
Love my new BAR 7mm WSM too. Just returned from a great hunt at King Ranch in south Tex. , shot two large 9pt white tails. They don't grow that big
in Alabama.

Have a whole safe full of them . I love my lever guns alot. My buddys dad is a master gunsmith at marlin so he puts all the bells and whisltes on my marlins like the aaa grade wood and all that. they are almost to pretty to shoot !! Whats nice about the lever guns to for me is that my indoor range i go to lets me shoot the 357 or 44 mag in the indoor range so thats real nice in the winter.

Am developing a fondness for em, especially the shorter barreled versions.

Marlin 1894 25-20 (newer version)
Winchester 30-30 Trapper (christmas)
Marlin 1894 cp, 357 and 44 mag
Marlin 375 Winchester (2)
Winchester 375 Big Bore
Marlin 444 outfitter
Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun

Thanks for the info. You made out ok sounds like!

What is the WWG trigger? The trigger on this 336 is breaking around 5 pounds or so I guess which is fine with me. It has the slightest bit of takeup and then it breaks nice and clean.

both sweet looking rifles, and they made me just email Brockman's about sending mine for some work!

That WWG is the Wild West Guns trigger? was it drop in or did you have to do any fitting at all?

Nice rifles..very nice..

I love mine.

Henry .22mag
336 30-30
336 35 remington
Marlin 1895 .357
Uberti Yellowboy .45 long colt

The .22 mag is probably one of my favorite guns to shoot. Light, quick, accurate. I love it and can shoot it all day long for only a few bucks.

I also love the .357 for the same reasons. I've actually considered using the .357 as my truck gun since I can't think of much I'd need to shoot that it couldn't be used on.

I dig 'em.

Marlin 336W .30-30
Marlin 1894C .357 Mag
Winchester 94AE Trapper .30-30

Can't decide on my next one, either low road (.22LR) or high road (.45-70).
