Have you ever made your own wild cat round? I am not talking taking a 308 and making it into a 7mm 08 I am talking about really making a new round all together. I was thinking of necking a 500 S&W magnum down to 35...........just to say I did it.

Tell me about what you made.

Yep.

I cut 300 WSM down to 1.650 (just below the shoulder) blow it out to .510, and use it in a 1999 action from Montana Rifleman for throwing 700gr surplus 50 BMG bullets at ~900FPS. Still need to finish her up and make a silencer, then I'll have a REAL nice toy. :)

I think SSK has a round that's .444 marlin necked down to .35 cal. It would end up doing about the same thing as your idea.

The .444 Marlin can be used with any of the ".308" family of dies to create a rimmed version of the case. These wildcats have been around for decades. Likewise the 5.6x50R case can be used with the TCU family of dies to create rimmed versions of those cartridges. The .30-30 case family has been used to create the smaller JDJ cartidges and the Herretts plus is the same diameter as the 10mm to create a rimmed 6.8 SPC, .338 Spectre, .357 SIG, 10mm or 10mm Magnum all the way up to the .375 and .40 Maximum/SuperMag. The .30-40 Krag can be used to create a .35 Remington Rim or any of the .44 caliber cartridges including various lengths of the .357-44 Bain & Davis.
I know I left out a ton of possibilities too.

This is the most successful of several wildcats I've made. Successful for MY needs which probably won't match anyone else's. The case is 45/90 necked down to 375. I like rimmed cases so please don't tell me thats a problem.

I load the cartridge to 3500 foot pounds muzzle energy. It is capable of more energy but I do not need more and the reduced load makes the round pleasant to shoot. The round is used in a rifle based on a P14 Enfield action that I built. I use the rifle on elk. I would have no concerns about using it on anything that moves in the US. I have not tried the solid on a tank yet but it will rip completely through a car, from end to end not just across.;)

That's a 9mm round for comparison.

I'm more interested in LOW velocity, straight-walled cases. I don't want to deal with a shoulder on my cartridge. I've already got dies being made, so... :)

Inspired either by a typo, research error, or creative alt. reality in Stephen King's Dark Tower series (Jake Chambers' gun) I liked the idea so much of a Ruger semi-auto that shoots a 44 cal, I made one.
It's really cool, but Automag fell on its face, so I have no interest in blowing my life savings trying to market this 44 pistol cartridge.

Though, I'll continue to play around with it and have brass made for it. It's kinda like the gun Lord Humongous had in The Road Warrior. Very special, only so many cartridges, and nothing else like it.

That looks like a dandy cartridge for a double rifle.

Here's 5.7 CZ (5.7x45) compared to 223

and 6.5 CZ (6.5x45) between 308 and 223

PTK, do you have pictures or other details.

That wildcat round sounds like a dream.

When I have it completed (still need to make the silencer, finish up the stock, etc.) I will be posting a complete set of pictures, specifications, and videos of it being fired. I expect to be done in the next six months or so. :)

OOOOH, do tell. What case?

Is it a necked down 45? I love handgun wildcats. :D

I've been toying with the idea of using chopped 5.56 brass to make a HIGH pressure 9mm. :)

I know about the 38Super, 9x23mm, 9x25mm, Jeff Cooper's "Super Cooper", etc... nothing new here, but it sounds like fun. :)

I read somewhere, Cartridges of the World, I think, that if you think you have an original idea for a wildcat round, then forget it, somebody's already tried it.

20mm vulcan necked down to a .14cal bullet?
