I just got back from my first range trip with my new M&P 45. Disappointingly, I had failure to feeds and failure to go into battery out of nearly every magazine fired. The rounds would seem to hang about 2/3 into the chamber. Sometimes a tap on the rear of the slide would cause it to go into battery, twice I had to rip the magazine free to clear a double feed. Ammo fired was 250 rds of mostly Winchester 230 ball with some gold dot and DPX mixed in. Failures occured with both magazines and seemed if anything to get more prevelent as the session went on. Usually I find SW autos perfectly reliable with poor ergonomics (for my hand at least). This gun feels great in the hand and was accurate and comfortable to shoot, but thus far is terribly unreliable. I've got an email in to Smith and Wesson, and I'm sure their customer service will make it right, but wonder if anyone else has had problems or if I managed to find the proverbial lemon.

Same Same Here

Went to the range with my .45 ACP M&P to break it in and see where it shot.

Reloads from Cabelas werre used for the breakin. Did EXACTLY the same thing as yours did. Kept shooting it and it got smoother and smoother after about 200 rnds.

Switched ammo to factory stuff that I carry ( ALWAYS test your carry pieces with what you will use to save your bacon ) and there was not a hitch.

The M&P is TIGHT. More so than an XD45 I was using as well as my Colt 1911. I am going to have to break this one in.

Once home, I took it down and noted the "skid" mark where the bullet tips hit the feed ramp...look at yours and see the mark...I took a dramel tool and polished the area and inside the chamber which appeared to be rough.

It works like a champ now. Keep shooting it. More is gooder. ;)

Seriously I don't understand why someone would want to be the Ginny pig for S&W. It would be better to wait a few years so they have time to work out all the defects in M&P lineup. I hear just as many bad stories as good about this pistol.

well, somebody has to buy it so they can find out what defects there are to get 'em fixed...

Seems to me that all gun makers would have little problem making a gun that feeds and ejects ammo at this point in time, but that's not reality. I've had a few autos that had to be played with to feed ok, and others that would never work right, regardless of what was done with them. I'm having a lot of luck lately, everything I've bought recently has functioned perfectly, both revolvers and autos. A huge change for the better from past purchases, where it seemed the more expensive a gun was, the less reliable it was. I've only had one revolver that was a dud, my first gun ever, a Taurus 83 heavy barrel, in nickel. Nothing except the plating was done right on that one. Crunchy trigger, bad rifling (lead had to be chisled out!), bad timing. Usually the cylinder would jam in less than 12 shots with lead bullets. I haven't bought a Taurus since, but have come close several times. The other worst dud was an AMT Long Slide Hardballer, but the Colt Combat Commander I bought to replace it was just as unreliable. Trips to Colt didn't help, so off it went.
