Hello all!

I am a long time shooter looking to get into shooting IDPA and IPSC. What division would my Sig P220 be best suited for?

Assuming it is a .45, the most common P220 caliber, I would enter it in IDPA CDP. You would be in with mostly 1911s but there are other .45s in use.

I think it would do best in USPSA/IPSC Limited 10, being that you can get 10 round magazines for it. http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/ShowProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=27&productid=61

But don't worry about such fine details. Just go shooting, be safe, have a good time.
There is good introductory material on IDPA at

I don't know where to find similar material on IPSC but maybe somebody will say.
Or just show up at the local club, somebody will take you in hand and get you started.

Yep its a .45.

What about single stack?

Your the second person to mention L-10. Guess i will have to start shopping for some 10round mags.

Gotta be a 1911 type to shoot single stack, funny furrin guns with double actin' triggers need not apply.

If you have enough 7-8 round magazines you can give L-10 a try with no extra expenditure. Just reload more often.

I plan on picking up two 10round mags to supplement the two 7round mags I currently have. That should be enough to get me started!

I have been told the lack of magwell will be a disadvantage in L-10. I have also been told certain open front type Hogue grips act as a magwell on the p220 and give some edge back in that regard.
