i am looking into getting my first suppressor and was curious what you guys that about different rifle rounds. It is mainly going to be a hog hunting gun. I worry about suppressing a .223 because by the time you get sub-sonic you don't have much kinetic energy left. I think it is most likely going to be a .300 win mag or a .308.

Any thoughts

As of now i don't reload but this would be a perfect reason to start. I am wanting to something to shoot hogs while deer hunting and for general enjoyment. I also don't want an integral suppressor. Something that down the road could be switched to different rifles.

my local gunshop has an AWESOME suppressed rifle on the shelf. chambered in 44magnum handgun round. barrel and suppressor are one piece and much wider than most suppressors. perhaps 3". i haven't shot it, but i'll bet it's pretty quiet. it's not that expensive either, but I pared my collection down to just a couple calibers and 44mag isn't one of them, so i passed on it.

i have been considering getting a suppressed rifle chambered in .480 ruger. i already have a taurus raging bull and rossi '92 lever gun in that caliber. it's a cool caliber because it shoots a massive bullet at relatively slow velocities. that seems more appropriate than the current crop of hand cannons (500sw, 460sw, 454c, etc) i load mostly 400g gold dots.

now, the trick would be finding a magazine-fed bolt action that would feed it.

it is only illegal to hunt game animals with a suppressor. Hogs are considered an exotic.

Regardless of whether hogs are a nuisance, a pest, or exotic.

I think you will get in trouble if you carry a suppressed firearm that is illegal for deer hunting, while deer hunting.

Might want to run the idea past a local F&G officer and see what their views are.

Round these parts, if you carry a rifle while duck hunting or turkey hunting, they will lock you up.

.300 whisper! a.k.a. .300 fireball and you can get an ar upper for it at del-ton. Gotta reload though.
