1911 extractor
To tune the extractor you insert it halfway in the extractor slot and bend it slightly toward the firing pin hole. It should hold a case to the point that it sags just a little bit when released. The bent extractor should have to be pushed into the slot, but never hammered. If your extractor has a dog knot about the center it might be alright as is, if not the dog knot will have to be ground off. the lower edge of the hook will allow a shell to feed up from the magazine easier if it has a slight bevel filed on the flat area just behind the hook, don't overdo it as just a little extra bevel is all that's desirable. The best shop manual for the 1911 is now out of print but the last time i looked there were several for sale on gunbroker.com. titled "the .45 Auto" , i don't remember his first name, but Hallock is his last name. This book is much easier to understand for the layman, and has better drawings than Kuhaunson's which just has photos which are sometimes difficult to make out. Don't be afraid to work with your extractor, it's not rocket science and not at all difficult. If you bend it too much just straighten it out a little. If you have too much trouble pm me and i'l try to get you straight.
