Bend over, the President - the greatest leader of our time - is about to spend time on illegal immigration.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/11/27/bush.immigration/index.html

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- President Bush will make stops in Arizona and Texas this week to address an issue that has divided some members of his own Republican Party -- illegal immigration.

After spending the holiday weekend with family at his Crawford ranch, the president will visit Tucson, Arizona, on Monday, and El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday.

A senior administration official said that the president, in a speech on immigration, will focus on three areas: border security, enforcement and a temporary worker program.

The official said the president will talk about "additional resources and the use of technology to secure the border," and will discuss it in terms of national security and the economy.

Bush also is expected to raise the issue of interior enforcement. The administration official said that includes "interior repatriation," or returning illegal immigrants from Mexico to the interior of the country instead of on the other side of the border.

In addition, the president will talk about adding beds to detention facilities "so we aren't catching and releasing illegal immigrants."

A third component, according to the official, will be Bush's proposal for a temporary worker program that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain legal status. The president first introduced the idea in January 2004. (Full story)

But some conservatives have fiercely opposed the program, viewing it as a form of amnesty for people who have entered the U.S. illegally.

Because of that, one GOP analyst said, the Bush administration has a delicate balance to strike in appeasing those conservatives by talking tough on border security without alienating Hispanics, women and swing voters.

"Republicans are talking about solutions rather than just making a lot of noise," said Leslie Sanchez, the former director of Hispanic communications for the Republican National Committee. "But with those solutions come a lot of things that can look like immigrant bashing."

"When you're talking about deportation and taking a very stringent stand on all immigrants, we have to be careful that we are specifically talking about those who have broken the law," Sanchez said.

While in Arizona, the president also will attend a fundraiser for Sen. Jon Kyl Monday night, and on Tuesday, after his trip to El Paso, Bush is scheduled to make an appearance at a fundraiser in Colorado for Rep. Marilyn Musgrave.

Temporary Guest Worker Program. Uh-huh...
What in God's name makes anyone think that illegal aliens will start obeying immigration laws after this program is in effect? They're just going to pack up and go home after their alloted time is up?
This is kinda like wiping out burglary by making it legal to, well, burgle.

Fund raiser , your last paragraph says it all.At the tax payers expense.Business as usual.

Jorge's (in)action on this is going to cost the repubs big time in the midterms. just watch for a massive stay home among the base that's sick and tired of his socialist programs and out of control spending.

ETA Jon Kyl has got to be worried big time, he faces opposition from Jim Peters, a right wing dem, with lots of campaign money.

GWB has sold the American People down the river on every issue their is. The border is no different

I have absolutely voted in my last presidential election. The team of Clinton/Bush have destroyed America for Americans. I moved from California to Tulsa thinking that I might see some sanity prevail. But in the Tulsa paper I've actually seen ads in the help wanted section that said, "Non-Spanish speaking feel free to apply."

My wife and I were in a furniture store talking to the owner. He said he could not hire another employee who was not bilingual.

It's sickening. I don't care who runs. There is no difference. They're all the same. Republican. Democrat. They implement any policy that will guarantee they get what they want and could care less as to how it impacts the future of America.

And now Bush Sr. want Jeb to run. Jeb, who married a Mexican. Like he'll do the right thing.

I despise them all.

Talking about it is not the same as doing it. He's already condemned the Minutemen as 'vigilantes', so he's just another talk is cheap hypocrite in my book.

Check out www.numbersusa.com

A lot of info available and you can send out free faxes to just about any politician in the Nation. It beats sitting around griping and it's a great way to put pressure on the Pols.

While I understand the need for the President to operate in a politically feasible manner, the fact of the matter is that illegal immigrants are not American citizens. They have broken the law to be here, and are a drain on our system. Any action other than punishment is merely going to encourage further abuse.

Secure the Border. Eject the intruders. Punish those who support the industry. And make legal immigration a feasible option!

There's a saying in the theater, and it applies to George Bush: He has lost his audience.

The words come out but no one is listening any more. Even the Border Patrol agents he was talking to today weren't taking the rhetoric seriously. They know the reality and can smell the ordure. That's a sad moment for any politician. It's going to be a long three years till the next shoot-out.

Bush started his speech with the usual "compassion" mantra. Earth to Bush: Compassion is not appropriate here, any more. Enough already. What we desperately need, but won't get, at least from Bush, is draconian action. He has a Mexican heart--hasn't that been said of him before? Deporting 15 million isn't the answer, that's just another huge Federal lindustry in the making. The answer is to dry up employment by penalizing culpable employers and stop social welfare--for starters. Putting a wall across the southern border and manning the border with troops would be good too. As for bussing illegals back to their home towns, I think dropping them over the Amazon jungle would be far more effective.

On October 9, 2003, I got a letter from the gov't saying that I had completed the requirements for hiring to become a Border Patrol agent and that the hiring center would be contacting me within 60 days to give me a starting date.

Classes are by geographical area. A new class has not gone through the academy for the South Texas stations in over 2 years. When they call and offer me the job they said I was hired for 2 years ago I'll believe someone cares about the border. Not until then.

What would that question be?
I was asked by management to refrain from asking JammerSix if he employed illegal aliens. It was my sig, since he refused to answer in any thread in which he was engaged. Come to think of it, he still hasn't answered.

See the way they think? They want to 'appease' us. They're just about to get knocked off balance, and replaced.

"Republicans are talking about solutions rather than just making a lot of noise,"
Like I said, talking about it is not the same as doing it.

BTW, very well said, longeyes. I give that rant a '10'. :D

I hear you Bro! I live just outside Tulsa. Lots of illegals here. I know builders here that will pay for Mexican labor to stick frame house's cheaper. Then builders keep the money they would have had to pay out if they would have used local Carpenters. That's OK though as the quality sucks bigtime. But then again some people here in Tulsa are stupid enough to buy said houses.

Now keep in mind that these "so called jobs like these frame carpenters" are supposed to be jobs that Americans don't want! BS! Mexican Labor = More Profit for Builders!

We'll get talk by the bushel basket; if we get any action, however, it will be by the quarter-teaspoon.
I believe that we can force a change, if we make our intentions known and back them up with a hostile vote. Could be I'm wrong, but what the hell do we have to lose?

See that here in Arizona everyday. The builders hire the illegals for next to nothing then they sell the house for as much as they would get if built with union labor. Trouble is the builders our the ones who chip in big for the politicans. Hell a blind man can see why King George won't stop the illegals. He and the rest in DC are traitors to the country. But remember it isn't only King George. The house and Senate could pass any bill they want without the King signing it. They to get the big money from business to run for office. For now on I will vote the Constitution party. For the working man it doesn't matter who get in office. The Republic has been dead for years!

We whine and complain about illegal immigration, and then when it gets some attention, we still want to somehow bend it into a Bush bashing opportunity. If the administration responded to political pressure, it wouldn't get any credit for doing so. That simply wouldn't do. There would have to be some other excuse to be critical.

I have less and less hope that things can be fixed without something radical, e.g. another Alamo or a massive loss of life at the border. Then the voter majority will wake up and demand action, so even the corrupt clowns in DC have no choice but to take real measures.

That a Repub president should come out of Texas and blabber apologetically about "compassion" while agents are being shot at at the border is a sure sign of hell freezing over.

Jorge Bush = our own American chimera of leftist-globalist Grofaz

C'mon, man. Bush is one of the biggest illegal apologists this country has known.
If you're at all honest, you'll agree. You don't think that this issue is getting attention at this point because of, um, I dunno, some elections due to come up in a year or so? After they've bought your vote and whored you out, will you still lick their boots?
