I noticed something in another thread that had never occured to me (no CCW yet)...when using any sort of holster that attaches to your pants/belt, do you do anything special when using a stall in a public restroom? Afterall, when you drop your drawers to the floor, anyone at a distance can possibly see your gun, and someone in the next stall could make a grab for it. Is this actually a problem, or am i just imagining things?

:D :D :D

Most normal folk dont go through restrooms looking under the stalls....

Just in case ya live in San Francisco or something, hold your CCW in your hand whilst ya do yer buisness, that way it is both concealed and you are ready ifin anyone attepmts to barge in...

It's not really that big of a problem, just don't drop it in the bowl. :) Although, having one arm broken and in a cast can greatly increase the difficulty rating needed to successfully complete the task, even without having to deal with a handgun.

1. Don't drop your pants to the floor. To the knees is plenty.
2. Unholster and hold the gun.
3. Avoid public restrooms. ;)

Take gun out, drop trousers, have seat (get comfy ;) ) lay gun inside of pants/undies (not down leg hole, where you normally store your other gun).

This way you will never forget your gun on the toilet, shelf etc.. when you leave. Don't laugh, it's happned before with :( results.

Don't forget it

I read a recent story on packing.org where someone found a piece on the back of a commode. I believe an on duty LEO accidently left it.

The thought ran though my mind once, but I shortly came to Wildalaska's conclusion. I also figure that I'm leagal and anyone that does look into the stall is no different than someone lifting up my shirt and if someone was to try and grap it I could grap thier wrist and start using the stall wall to break thier arm before they ever got it out of the holster.

I can't tell you how many times I've dropped my cuffs in the toilet..

I loop them through the back of my trousers/jeans and let them hang..

I forget they are there and when the pants come down...plop....

I normally use a separate inner belt for my CCW. That way the gun is secure even if my pants are not. Works good with running shorts or sweat pants too.

Alternately, the Smart Carry holster or a pocket holster also work.

I Have Two Stories About CCW and Lartrines-

In the first, a U.S. Marshal friend of mine entered the
stahl; removed his firearm, and got comfortable
on the toilet seat. After completing his business and
redressing; he forgot to retrieve his firearm!:uhoh:
Luckily, when he discovered he was "naked" and went
back for his weapon; it was still there, right where he
had left it. :D

The second story is of a uniform patrol officer who
hurriedly entered a stahl, removed his Glock 17 from
his duty rig and hangs the weapon on the coat
hangar attached to the rear of the door. Then he
proceeds to shut the door in a rapid fashion; and
the Glock begins to descend towards the floor. Its
unknown whether or not the officer's finger got
caught inside the trigger guard; or if he grabbed
the weapon* as it begin to fall? But at any rate, the
9m/m discharged sending a W-W 147 grain "Black
Talon" JHP into the shower area. Since in occured
at approximately 0900 hrs, there was no one taking
a bath. The officer was so shook-up he retreated for
his residence for the remainder of the shift!:D :uhoh:

*If this occured, the the firearms trigger guard most
likely was still over the coat hangar; and when the
officer reached for the weapon Glocks "Safe Action"
firing cycle was activated.

Open your belt, and then close it at one of the first holes, then drop you pants down to your knees and sit down spreading your legs to tighten the belt.
This will leave you in the right position :p and with your gun standing upright in the holster right in front of your strong hand.
No need to unholster, and your gun and pants are safe from less than satisfactory clean stall floors. :uhoh:

hmm, was gonna reply last night but fell asleep.

There are lots of good points here...didn't think of them. Uusually (usually), when using a stall for business, I just drop them to my ankles...unless the floor is nasty. But going to the knees, or the other solutions, make more sense.

AFA seeing under the wall, what I mean is, is if there's only one stall (a bathroom at my work) or there's more than one, but the others are unavailable...so you're stuck in the end stall, where one side faces out towards the room...as soon as someone can see the stall wall, they might be looking for feet (to see if it's occupied or not)...and while they're looking down there, would be able to see your gun. Of course, following some of the suggestions here would prevent that!

The only type of public restroom activity I partake in involves a urinal. Any escalation of hostilities waits until I get home :)

I carry a .38 revolver in an IWB holster. If I have to use a public restroom, I will simply take the holstered gun and put it in my front pants pocket.

It can't be seen or lost.

I do the same with my cell phone.

depends on what holster i have on. if its my high noon, the holster slides in and out easily. if its my rafters with belt loops, i remove the weapon and put it on the tp dispenser. typically i'll unload and dryfire for the 5-10 minutes i'm 'busy'.

Spread your feet so it keeps the belt stiff and the gun doesn't fall.... ;)

Don't make me attach a pic ;)

Here are a couple methods of attack.Bg turns off light, crashes thru stall door, rams hand down throat to gain compliance.A gun hanging on a stall door is not good. Two Bg's pick stalls on either side of victim, pull vic forcefully off toilet by the legs. The shock to the spine and back of the head stun the vic.Bg # 3 holds a knife to the private parts to gain compliance, then empties pockets.A gun at ankle level is hard to retain.I use a fast food joint if I have to.Pick an end stall for all needs, this gives you an extra second over a urinal. Also gives you a wall for your back.Hopefully this will help someone to not be a victim.

OK, no offense to Den Ko, but that is just completely "effed" up.

I am NOT going to start preparing for an attack while eating grapes on the growler.

I simply refuse to slide that far into paranoia. If the bathroom is so dangerous that I have to worry about 2 goblins grabbing me from either side, I should be too scared to poop before I even get started.

Yeah, no Sh... errr... yeah, I guess that's the whole point.

Personally, I got more things to be afraid of while waiting for the royal flush. If a BG is coming after me while I'm sitting on the throne, he's gonna have to get through a serious boilogical/chemical attack first. I'm talking the real weapons of mass destruction. Many a time have I considered using a filtration mask myself, so offensive is my stench.

:barf: :p :barf:

Just an observation, and I could be mistaken...unless I have the usernames wrong and wrong gender, but I think the ladies are scratching their heads, cleaning their monitors...laughing at the guys. Women Never discuss this type of situation it seems. And NO -not all carry a purse either. Either they have conquered this little problem, or they ain't sharing. I'm betting they tell us the former. :)

As good as my imagination is or I think it is :scrutiny: Im not even gonna try to add to this one in a constructive way.........Ba ha ha ha ha ha

As far as women go...I KNOW they have the exact same discussions that we do....some are even worse than you can imagine. But they have a higher code than we do and will never admit it............:D

Shoot well

But they have a higher code than we do and will never admit it
Yep.
I, being a male and all, figured my previous post would sail over the heads of the rest of my gender here, and the ladies might appreciate a gentleman's compliment. I also believe in providing covering fire for a lady while she reloads. ;)
