Paula Zahn is going to have a episode on the .50's tonight. Ronnie Barrett will be on the show, should be more fear mongering.

Better get your .50 now! The anti's are whipping this horse pretty hard.

I just cant stop from believing that any one who is anti gun in any way is just damn mental retarded. They never have a good argument on any issue and just seem like the candy as...s of the world.

I've got the TV on now - she's already gone on about how easy it is to buy with * no paperwork and no registration* and that it will * punch through steel plate from 1k yards away * . Be ready for the term *Fearsome Fifty* to be a buzzword :barf: :barf: :barf:

No wonder their veiwer numbers are way down, I hate it when these outfits try and shove their agendas down out throats.

Note the .50 cal has never been used in a crime. so the antis are saying that if it were to be used in a crime lookout. theyre assuming only that this weapon is a nusiance. do they not know the lesson if one assumes it makes an "ass (of) u and me".

Isn't it against Federal law to buy a gun face to face in another state ? I thought out of state sales had to be done through an FFL ?

Just watch the segment. To Quote "the perfect terrorist weapon." "The internet allows you to learn all the LOOPHOLES for buying a gun outside the system." "Could be used to down a commercial jet." What a bunch of CRAP.

what in the hell was that?

He said that he was firing from 1000 feet. Looked like 100 yards to me!

Worse yet, he said that a face to face transaction requires no FFL. I am new to Texas but...am I crazy or did I just watch an illegal transaction take place on TV? Even at gun shows you have to do the paperwork. He made it sound like there are no laws regarding purchasing a firearm. I think maybe he needs to do his next report from behind bars!

The reporter was absolutely shocked that two private individuals living in the same state could buy guns from one another with cash and no mounds of paperwork. There was the usual "look how easy it is to go on the internet and buy a rifle and ammunition!" hyperbole. There was a bit about how it can shoot through an aluminum door on an airplane (wow), followed by a steel plate shot. All this looked like it was done at something like 100 feet. The best part was seeing this reporter shoot his scoped .50 rifle, and missing the target center by a couple feet at an absurdly close range. :D In the closing seconds there was brief mention that nobody has ever used a .50 to kill in the USA, and that one probably couldn't bring down an airplane, though it could *gasp* disrupt things.

My comments on cnn.com

"First I have a question, has a .50 cal rifle been used in the commission of a crime? At the prices these kind of guns go for they are obiously not the first choice of your average street hood.
Second, anyone can hit a target at any range with the correct equipment and some experienced shooters standing by giving lessons to our hero, your reporter.
It's pretty easy for you turn a story into a personal attack on gun rights. If you are going to tell a story, tell the whole truth, not just what you feel fits your antigun agenda. Just get it right."

I saw part of this story tonight, then wrote this feedback on cnn.com to Ms. Zahn.

What does crime have to do with banning guns?

Even if they were used in crime each and every day, the Second Amendment clearly states my ever-present right to have one. It's too bad so many people think that my rights are up for negotiation.

In WW2 didn't fighters have 6 or 8 of these beasts mounted in their wings, plugging away at hundreds of rounds per minute? And it still took a while to take down a bomber made of wood.

Take down an airplane in 1 shot from a mile away indeed.

I might have to figure out how to bankroll my next NFA purchase soon if they keep yapping about banning .50s. I'll have to try to find a registered ma deuce. .50 cal plus full auto, it would be enough to drive the anti's crazy.

That's a great observation! Too bad facts don't sit well with most antis.

100 yards x (3 feet/yard) = 900 feet, ergo his statement and your estimate are pretty close.
Do you work for NASA?

You may want to check your math. Maybe change the batteries in your calculator.

Just remember that when they say .50 caliber, that would go for ALL .50 calibers! i.e. .50 cal black powder rifle, .50AE pistol, 500 Smith & Wesson since it's a .50 caliber cartridge. And so on....... The buzz word would only have to be a .50 caliber. If they get one .50 cal outlawed, they'll go for all of them!

Never under estimate the liberal media or ignorant liberal politicians.

Actually, 100 yards would be 300 feet.

And 1,000 yards = 3,000 feet. I'm not sure what FLY320s was getting at, unless it was intended to be sarcastic, then "" would have helped us out.

Oh, pardon me! It was HungSquirrel.

At least in WA a private party face-to-face transfer doesnt require any paperwork (or at least it didnt last time I did it). I would imagine that it doesnt in Texas either. This is ONLY if it is a transaction between two people who do not hold FFLs and are residents of the same state. It is HIGHLY recomended that one obtain a "bill of sale" but, it is not a requirement.

I'll rue the day they ban these things. I'm lucky to have gotten big into pistols as the AWB drew to a close, but there's no way I could afford a Barret in the next 3 years. Hopefully the fight's still going on then (at least in my state) and I can get one off the shelf before the .gov takes them.

I just read a story in Reader's Digest about two nut jobs who armed up, set fire to their house, and waited for the fire department to arrive. When they did, they opened fire on the firefighters. At one point, it mentioned that the male nut job had a ".50 sniper rifle", and the female had an "assault weapon". I thought, here we go. :uhoh: Other than remarking how the fire was putting "fist sized holes through the fire trucks, it never mentioned anything negative.
