Colt commander? OR Sig Carry?

I'm always wary of guns that have been customized by previous owners. There are way to many kitchen table gunsmiths out there who's dremels have turned very nice guns into expensive paperweights.

If you want a Colt, take a look at a new XSE Commander. If not, then the Sig would be the way to go. I personally don't care for the odd slide profile or the external extractor, but they do build some nice guns.

They are the Audi of guns: finely crafted in Germany, pricey, but you get what you pay for. And unlike 1911s you don't get a $3000 target pistol you are afraid to drop or a cheep GI model that nees $1000s in "upgrades" A Sig is a shooter right out of the box. There is a reason the SEALs carry Sigs...just sayin.

I think you need to re-read the OP, because he's considering a Sig 1911, not a P Series. Even then, both Sig's 1911's and almost all of the P Series guns sold here today are made in the U.S.

Didn't know we ceded Exeter, New Hampshire to Germany. The Sig 1911s are made here with parts mainly produced here.

There's still that $300 or so difference in price to overcome...or you could compare the Sig to a new Colt for even money.

i have an opportunity to get a colt combat commander for 600 dollars, its not in perfect shape, but decent. my dilemma is that i could get the colt, get a trigger, sights, grips, bobtail it and have it coated black and be at about the same cost as a new sig carry nitron....would i just be better off starting with the sig? help me out guys

"sig carry nitron"

Now I could be mistakened, but I don't see anywhere that the OP mentioned a Sig 1911, just a sig carry nitron...and there is a Sig P220 Carry Nitron. .45ACP does not end at the 1911. Many glocks are built at the plant in GA but we still call then "Autrian Perfection." No matter where they are put together, it is still a "German" pistol.

Sig Carry Nitron.

Since his other option is a Colt Commander, the gun the Sig "Carry" is based of, I'm 90% certain that he's comparing two different 1911's.

Also, there's a difference between saying that a gun is finely crafted in Germany and saying that it's a German gun. The P series has both German and Swiss heritage, but almost all of the new ones we buy here in the U.S. are manufactured in New Hampshire.

Creature,

Very nice Colt. If there is one thing I hate it's a beaver tail. There are not many choices for beaver tail-less 1911 these days, in fact they seem to get bigger with each new model.
