For day to day carry, which of these: Colt Commander, Sig Nitron Carry and DW VBob, would you prefer. Please consider (among other factors) reliability, accuracy and value for your dollar spent.

I have all three of the said pistols. I am somewhat partial to the DW, but I have heard strong arguments in favor of the Colt as well as Sig.

Thanks

Three very good guns that will fill that roll well.

I am also partial to the DW. While it is more expensive, I think it is a great value. I am also partial to bobtails for EDC, specially if you carry IWB.

I think that people who are choosing something other than the Dan Wesson have not handled one lately.

I am no fanboy either, I own a TRP, and several years ago owned a 10mm Dan Wesson I was not impressed with.

These new pistols had the same level of fit, finish and quality I would expect from a ~2000 dollar gun.

I have seen tests where valors out shoot les baer's on the 1911 forum, unbelievable guns.

The Valor would be my pick but you have to remember that if you go with the duty coat you are looking at almost double what you will pay for a Sig or Colt Commander.

The Valor is IMHO a different class than production Colt or Sig. Sig 1911s are OK but I am not fan of their slide profile because too often they will not fit in a standard 1911 holster. I am also not a big fan of the external extractor.

To me the real choice is between the Valor for about $1700 to $1800 or buy a stock Colt and send it off for $1000 worth of custom work. Both ways have their merits and their supporters. The advantage of a the custom Colt is you get to set it up exactly the way you want it not the way DW wanted to sell it. LOL

I can't even imagine the Colt being in this discussion in any of those categories...unless you are considering sentimental value under value.

There might be some argument for the SIG Carry, if you were comparing it to the older DW CBOB, but the VBOB just blows the SIG out of the water through it's superior fit and finish

I agree on the above post. However, I have run in to people who have strong opinions otherwise. The reason I wanted test it out here on the THR.

After handling the DW, I was immediately a believe.

It took owning a DW for me to be a believer. That said, I can't seem to justify the additional increase in price of the VBOB over the CBOB that I have. There is a lot of price difference and I find it hard to believe there is that much improvement to be made to justify the cost.

If money is no option, go with the VBOB. But if it is, then consider a CBOB instead. Second choice would be the Sig. My FIL has a Nitron Carry that I've shot a lot. It has really opened my eyes to the Sig 1911. Fantastic gun!

I carry a SIG RCS 1911, right combination of reliability, accuracy and size, not to mention the Novak night sights. Colt has been the standard for years, but lately, not so much, pay more and get less when it says Colt. Dan Wesson on my list, but they are too full of themselves, prices reflect this, decent pistols though.

BTW question: is carrying half cock Colt harmful to the pistol?

NO. some hammers at half cock will contact the whole sear face. Some others will only contact the sear face between the areas where the hammer hooks contact. Either way, unless you smash the hammer with a regular hammer the sear will just sit there.
