Here are some pictures of my 1938 vintage commercial, Colt New Service .38 special revolver. Do any of you like these old Colt revolvers? This gun is in mint condition and the action is like new and feels great. It's hard to believe that this Colt New Service .38 could be seventy years old and still be in such excellent overall condition! It is 100% factory original! I just thought that I'd take some good pictures of this revolver, to show all of you Colt lover's out there!:

That is one pristine Colt you have there. How about some details, like how you got it, any history behind the gun; that sort of thing. And thanks for the pix, they made my day.

Very nice. That is a hulking cannon for being chambered in .38 Special. That was the old Border Patrol standard issue when Charles Askins, Jr. worked for them.

I have one in .45 Colt and it is a monster. I can't imagine one in .38 Special. Would be even heavier due to smaller holes in barrel and cylinder.

Yours does look really primo.

Nice!! I'd love to have on in .45 Colt! One of these days I'll add one to my collection. I posted pictures in the revolver picture sticky.

Unfortunately, I don't know the history of my Colt New Service .38 revolver. I stumbled across this old Colt in a local gun shop, hidden in a dark corner of their gun case. I think that the slim tapered barrel on this Colt makes it somewhat lighter than the larger diameter barrel on the bigger caliber New Service revolvers? Yes, these guns are big-but, it doesn't feel that heavy-especially next to my 5.5" Ruger Redhawk .357 revolver!

Do any of us like them. What kind of a question is that? You've got one of the finest revolvers ever made right there--the culmination of prewar Colt prowess. Every part hand-fitted, and nothing left the factory unless it shot dead on at 25 yards.

I almost don't want to know what you paid for it.

I like mine, but it is a 1917. Mom still has dad's 45lc version. I can only imagine what that hulk would be like in 38 Special. It'd be like shooting a .22

Yes, I knew that my New Service .38 was one of the finest Colt revolvers ever made! Cosmoline: Thanks for giving me the facts regarding Colt's accuracy standards for these guns!:D

I know that I could obtain a letter from Colt's-but, at a cost of $75 dollars!:banghead:
