Compact 45 ACP shopping

I don't have as much experience as some with the higher cap pistols as some, but you mentioned you night be open to a 1911 variant.

I came into a RIA compact in a trade and it's scary accurate and haven't had any reliability issues.

I might not have bought one myself, but after some shooting, I'm glad I got one and might look to RIA again in the future instead of the colt I was thinking about.

Answering your original question, there aren't that many small lightweight hi capacity 45's. Once you eliminate 1911's for weight and capacity, you really only have the XDS and the Glock 30, I have both, and interchange as necessary, the XDS can be pocket carried, and the 30S can be concealed and also with the 13 round mag, be your house gun.
There aren't too many others I can think of that are 20 ozs and carry 8-16 rounds of 45, "you can add a +2 to the 13 round mag"
By the way I had inquired about a holster for the 30s, but wanted to speak to someone at the company about some special work. They called me, and after a nice conversation, he told me that right now, they are making more holsters for the 30S than any other handgun. No reason to not tell the truth since he said if it didn't work for me, I could send it back. "Blue Ridge

I may need to replace my Taurus PT-145 Millenium PRO

I've had incredibly good luck with my PT-145. What parts are having a problem if you don't mind my asking? And what generation is your pistol? I think I might try to find a second PT-145 if I had problems so I'd have a backup set of parts. I really like my Taurus. I stopped carrying my Sig P220 in favor of the smaller but higher capacity PT-145. Mine is Gen. III btw. I looked long and hard for the right CCW pistol when I bought that Taurus. I never found anything that had the features it had and mine is very accurate and very dependable. I hear what you're saying about parts problems but have you thought about just buying another one and having a parts gun? They really are excellent guns IMO. I know Taurus quality can be spotty but mine has been flawless through about 2500 rounds. I carry a Sig XDm in the car now and usually carry a Ruger LCP as a CCW piece because of the weight but I ain't about to let go of my Taurus. I still carry it once in a while. And BTW I live having the rail on it. I have a laser mounted to mine and I adapted a CrossDraw holster to fit with the laser attached. If not for the weight I'd carry it as my CCW weapon all the time. I just don't like having my pants sagging down on one side so much.

There aren't too many others I can think of that are 20 ozs and carry 8-16 rounds of 45

He has one but it has problems. IMO it's dang near a perfect CCW piece for a .45. Not one with problems of course. The weight of one is 22.2 ounces so it's a bit over your listed number but I can't imagine getting one to weigh much less than 22.2 ounces.

The "S" is lighter than the regular 30, that's one reason I traded up for one, the thickness of the frame "especially the Grip", and the weight.. It's around the same as my Glock 26.

My pt-145 never run more than one magazine in a row. Normally only 3 or 4 shots in a row. But dang I loved that little pistol, it carried well, recoil was pretty good, accuracy was good IMHO.

I just went throught the mind games of buying a compact .45 for CCW purposes. I have always liked Glocks, but was confused about the different variations and what was what. I went to a gun store where the owner was very knowledgeable about the Glocks, and had every .45 they made in stock, or at least all the compact ones. 36, 30, 30 SF, 30S etc.

He handed them to me blind, one at a time and let me feel them. I handled the 30S last, and bought it on the spot. Perfect for me, and no harder recoil than most of my 9mm with fairly hot loads. The thinner slide of the 36 and the SF frame was perfection for me. Otherwise, it would have been the Springfield XDs, but the capacity and the fit in my hand was just perfect with the 30S. New favorite gun!
